Lavasioth is a Piscine Wyvern with rock hard scales. The body structure resembles a lung fish, and the head is more fish-like than the shark-like Plesioth's. Its basic body shape and fins resemble that of a coelacanth. Glowing magma aurates from veins in its body. It lives in volcano zones where it can freely swim in the lava. Its attacks and movements are vaguely similar to those of a Plesioth and Blos-type wyverns. Unlike Plesioth, however, its Hipcheck attack has a tiny Hit-box. It can fire huge balls of magma at you; when these hit the ground, they scatter into smaller molten rocks which can still do considerable damage if they hit you. Lavasioth can also jump up and slam itself down on the ground - this attack is very powerful. Another attack is the Sliding U turn. It will slide bodily across the floor towards you, but after missing can turn around and slide at you again, with pin-point accuracy. The best defense against this is to sheath your weapon and Panic Dive. If you have the ability to block, you can also block this attack. Its head and back fins are breakable.

Lavasioths are featured in Monster Hunter Frontier. It was first released in the game to be hunted on August 8, 2007. They also make an appearance in Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

It was formerly known as Volganos, but was renamed in MHFU as Lavasioth.
