Hello, and welcome to Discussion of the Week: HC Monsters!

I've been checking and I'm almost sure we haven't done this one yet. Anyways, this time we'll take a look at one of the most popular Frontier features: The Hard Core versions of monsters!

HC Velocidrome[]

FrontierGen-HC Velocidrome Render 001 (Edited)

Starting with one of the most brutal HCs in the series. These Velocidromes have red eyes and a different-shaped crest, and they also learn some nasty tricks; including several new attack such as tail whips, jumps, and body tackles. Also, in G-Rank, it will spit Farcaster breath at you!

HC Kushala Daora[]

FrontierGen-HC Kushala Daora Render 001

HC Kushala Daora is even better at harnessing the wind than the regular version, and is capable of making an huge hurricane by flapping its wings. But that's not all, it now freezes the ground when it roars, and gains several new attacks.

HC Berukyurosu[]

FrontierGen-HC Berukyurosu Render 001

The Dance Thunder Wyvern gets a new appearance, including brighter colors and longer spikes and claws. It is now able to perform his Thunder Crash attack when not enraged, and, like every other HC variation, learns new attacks, including a massive thunder beam that many would compare to a certain internet meme.

HC Cephadrome[]

...However, if we talk about changes, nothing beats HC Cephadrome. Its wings are now colored coral pink, and it has an extra crest on its head. It also has a completely new behavior, giving orders to its pack and combining their attacks.

HC Espinas Rare Species[]

FrontierGen-HC Espinas Rare Species Render 001

One of the newest HC variations, introduced in MHFG5. This Espinas Rare Species is even more dangerous than the original, and its most notable new attack, the fire tornado, is a great addition to its deadly moveset.

Note these are just a few examples. Feel free to talk about any HC monster in the game.

Questions[]

  • Favorite HC variation?
  • Least favorite?
  • Any other monsters that deserve a Hard Core version?
  • Would you like to see a similar concept in future main series games or should they stay Frontier-only?
