Online Hunting

So I've recently starting hunting online in Monster Hunter Tri. I've even made it up to Hunter Rank 9 (which I know, doesn't seem a whole lot.) Let me tell you something, it's hard. I'm not used to hunting with other people. Cha Cha doesn't count. If I hit him with a spray of Pellets or what-not, or if he falls down in battle, big whoop. I continue on like nothing happened. Other players, on the other hand, are different.

For instance, here I am on a Royal Ludroth hunt, working on getting the Low-Rank Ludroth Armor (Gunner) set. I'm trying to set up a shot, but as soon as I get a good opening, there's sudenly a player in my sights, and I have to back off. When one of my fellow hunters health got too low (by my standards) and they w…

An Official Hunter

I've finally done it, the one task that would actually let me call myself a true hunter for Monster Hunter. I've finally taken down my first Rathian. And let me tell you something, I went prepared.

First things first, I had to prepare my armor. My useful Ludroth armor was nice, but it's horrid fire resistance was a bit of a warning sign. Digging in the armory, I found that the only armor with decent Fire Resistance was the Qurupeco set. Nothing hard to get, in fact, I only need one more part to make it. So a quicky hunt with my Spiral Lance (see A Royal Pain, hehehe...) got me the armor set. Unfortunately, I only had enough Armor Spheres at the time to upgrade it once, but that was enough. Thanks to it's Defense Up (S), it had nearl…

A Royal Pain

So, here I was on Tri, building up my stock of Lances. And while I'm building them, I like to use 'em too, just to get that practice in. To get the parts needed to make my Spiral Lance, I decided to do the "A Royal Pain" capture quest, which I never did do. Not that I ignored it, I just wanted to at least unlock my Gobul quest.

Anyhoo, on my THIRD attempt at capturing the bloody thing (wasn't co-operating with my trap setup...) I chased it from Area 9 to Area 5. I really didn't want to, the quest said the area was Unstable, and while mostly just annoying, I run into Great Jaggi and Qurupeco there WAY too often for my liking.

I wasn't too surprised when I saw a shadow on the ground and heard wings flapping. Bloody Qurupeco would make my …

A Gunner's Life for Me

So after a lotta trial and error, and a lot of zenny wasted, I've decided to main with Bowguns in Tri. That said, I do have a couple of questions I'd like to ask the more experienced players, just to clear things up.

1) Perhaps it's just me, but does fighting underwater affect your Range and Deviation? I swear, when I was tryin' to weaken some Sharqs, my shots weren't going quite as far or as accurately as they did on land. Then again, could just be me, like I said.

2) I've seen the Wyvern's Fire ammo, but I've never had the opportunity to use it. Does it function like a GunLance's?

3) How much stronger does Felyne Sharpshooter make your NormalS ammo? I use a lotta PelletS when fighting minion toting bosses, but I need the NormalS from t…

Weapon Training on Tri

Well, as I decided against getting a Classic Controller, I literally had to relearn the ins and outs out of all the weapons... again! Seriously, I got Unite not that long before Tri came out. Well, this is what I've discovered...

  • Sword and Shield

I love the changes to this weapon. They aren't drastic, but they make up for the fact that Dual Swords don't exist in this game. I find that Sword and Shield weapons have been turned into great damage dealers, being the only fast weapon of the game. They still haven't lost their adaptability edge, with their small shield and ability to use items while drawn. Heck, on the free-style set up, I don't even need to guard to use items!

It's new attacks are nice, though that Shield Bash is sweet, especially…
