Hello, and welcome to Discussion of the Week: Elder Dragons!

First things first; not going to cover every Elder Dragon here because otherwise the blog would be gigantic, and I need to stretch my limited supply of ideas out.

Also I'm quite lazy.

So we're looking at the 1st and 2nd Gen Elders!

Lao Shan Lung

This came up in my 'big monsters' blog and weirdly my opinion hasn't changed at all since.

Fatalis

I want to like Fatalis; not the most original design in the world but it's suitably intimidating. Unfortunately Castle Schrade is the blandest bland area and Fatalis is extremely limited by its movepool - fireball, snap'n'drag, belly flop, and fly around a bit. Just dull.

Kirin

I find Kirin immensely frustrating to fight, but I have to admit that it's the best of the bunch so far. The hard skin is a massive irritation, the charge hitbox is a mile wide and the lightning is evil, but at least it doesn't make you fall asleep. Throw your controller away in rage, possibly.

Kushala Daora

I am a big big fan of Kushala Daora. Love the sleek metallic design, the wings almost the whole length of the body, even the wind use (though it can be a bit irritating). Nice movepool and a generally fun fight.

Chameleos

Well at least it's unique. The invisibility is either very cool or very annoying, depending on your point of view. I vary between them depending on my mood, but the poison attacks, windpress, stealing items, corrosive vomit, etc, all combine to make Chameleos... a frustration.

Teostra/Lunastra

Not bad, again a nice mix of moves, cool and interesting design - an almost leonine dragon. Plus those horns. You don't argue with those horns.

Yama Tsukami

I like Yama a lot more than I think I should; the great concept and great design help make up for a pretty limited fight ('least in Unite). I guess I just have a weakness for giant flying octopuses.

Crimson Fatalis

Here Capcom had a chance to improve on the original, and... didn't really. It's like Fatalis, but now with extra hair-rending 1-hit-KO attacks (meteors) and armor mode, which only serves to drag out a fight you're not enjoying anyway.

White Fatalis

See above, but replace 'meteors' with 'lightning bolts'.

(I think that sentence was literally White Fatalis' design brief...)
