I am introducing a new logic and fact-based fantheory project based on MHFU that I would like to get some feedback for. The project is what I have dubbed the "Geneology Project." Basically it would be a diagram showing all species of monsters from MHFU, and how that, through chains of species relations, any one species can be somewhat indirectly related to any other. I have some ideas on the bulk of the species and how they would fit in, but there are a few that I am yet to fit into the spreadsheet.
In the diagram, there would be a few distinct types of relations. The first of these are near-identical appearences and preditorial behaviors. This should be somewhat self-explanatory. Examples of this type of relation would be pairs like Monoblos - Diablos, Tigrex - Nargacuga, Yian Kut-Ku - Yian Garuga, and Daimyo Hermitaur - Shogun Ceannataur.
The second type of relation on the diagram are alternately colored subspecies of pre-existing monsters. This also should be self-explanatory. Examples of this type of relation would be pairs like Yian Kut-Ku - Blue Yian Kut-Ku, Khezu - Red Khezu, and so on.
The third type of relation would be (somewhat) symbiotic relations. This one would be a little less self-explanatory. These relations would be ones in which one or both of the involved monster species benefit from the other, in both active and somewhat later-occuring forms. Examples of this would be Yama Tsukyami - Great Thunderbug, Daimyo Hermitaur - Monoblos (since the Daimyo uses the skull of a Monoblos as a shell), and so on.
The fourth type of relation would be ones based on very similiar characteristics and behaviors. This is a little more broad than the previous categories. Examples of this would include Chameleos - Gypceros (both can inflict poison, steal items, and use some bodily adaptation to fool the hunter), Yian Garuga - Rathian, and so on.
The fifth and final type of relation would be those based on seen "rivalry" between species in-game. By this I mean species that, when seen in the same area in MHFU, will attack one another in addition to the hunter(s) present. These would include pairs like Velociprey - Rathian and Cephalos - Tigrex.
I may come up with more of these types of relations as I go and if you have any ideas for other types of relations, let me know in the comments. I will try to post what I have done already sometime in the next few days, assuming I get feedback indicating that someone would like to see the spreadsheet. I also am open to other members of the site helping with this. I am open to considering any relation suggested, but the person who is doing so should be prepared to explain/justify/defend their claim. Thanks in advance.
