Tigrex (pronounced tie-grex) are pseudowyverns that naturally inhabit the deserts and migrate to the snowy mountains to feast on Popo. They are visibly recognizable by the orange-yellow skin with blue stripes. Although achievable, they restrict themselves to flying only when needed because of their unique wings, which have evolved into forelegs. When coming from a high area, they drop straight down, rather than slowly hovering down like most wyverns. Their four-legged stance allows them to maintain control over their speedy movements on land.
The Tigrex is known for its charge attack, its ability to "shove" ice or sand clumps at a hunter, and its 360-degree tail whip. Instead of the usual "Wyvern Bite", the Tigrex lunges and chomps at its prey once or twice. When in rage mode, its eyes and forearms turn red. "Ledging" is possible with the Tigrex: when it charges, stand in front of a wall and move away with precise timing and it will bite into the wall, becoming stuck and effectively allowing you to land a few spare hits, as well as dropping Wyvern Tears or Wyvern Sobs(HR6 Tigrexs')
Like the Rathalos in Monster Hunter, the Tigrex is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and appears on the cover of the box. The Tigrex was not present in Monster Hunter 2 for Japan, but was included in Monster Hunter Freedom 2 because of the loss of some features such as the Mythos monster, Yama, and the process of day-night town intervals.
