In-Game Information
Edit
Small, four-limbed monsters known for always wearing a mask. They specialize in camouflage, and once they turn their special skill on, they're virtually impossible to find. It's said that a settlement has been found deep in the forest.
Taxonomy
Edit
Humanoid Lynians. While the general genus is Lynian, the Shakalakas most likely don't have relations with Felynes and Melynxes due to their extremely barbaric nature. True Taxonomy is unknown
Habitat Range
Edit
The Shakalakas are known to favor the Forest and Hills and the Great Forest above all, although they can be found in the Tower and the Mountains. A Shakalaka settlement can be found in area 8 of the Great Forest. It may be likely that they are distantly a cross between humanoid lynians and pelagus/primatius monster.
Ecological Niche
Edit
The Shakalakas are very similar to humans, in that they hunt and gather, but are less civilized in nature. Some Shakalakas, however, have been known to befriend hunters, helping them on their quests.
Biological Adaptations
Edit
The Shakalakas have developed strong muscles in order to hunt prey and to attack trespassers. They also have been known to utilize Poison, Sleep Gas, and Barrel Bombs to attack. They also utilize disguises, usually as mushrooms and ice crystals; however, these disguises are easy to see through, as the mushrooms are much larger and brighter than any other, and the ice crystals are metallic colored. Also, it is sometimes possible to see the Shakalaka's mask under its disguise.
Behavior
Edit
The Shakalakas are proud and barbaric creatures, attacking most creatures, including hunters, on sight. While in battle they utilize frenzied attacks, giving the perception that they are stupid, they appear to have some degree of intelligence, as they are known to utilize weapons, status ailments and bombs, and have built a dwelling in the Great Forest. It is more likely that their apparent lack of intelligence is in fact a product of recklessness and a tendency to underestimate their opponents The strongest Shakalaka in the tribe is known as the King Shakalaka, who is larger in size, uses a club instead of a knife, and wears a BBQ Spit on its head. The Shakalakas have been known to covet certain items, as masks they leave behind when defeated can yield Armor Spheres, Shakalaka Treasure (described as garbage in-game), and on High Rank Quests, Shakalaka Inheritance. Shakalakas are also known to come out of hiding in the midst of a monster fighting a hunter, joining the fight fearlessly.
According to Cha-Cha and Kayamba, young Shakalakas partake in a coming-of-age ritual in which they are sent out of their settlement to bring back in item of great value to their tribe. This can take the form of a rare monster material, treasure, or an object with historical or cultural importance to the tribe (such as a special mask).
