- Superfamily: Pre-Winged Leg Wyvern
- Family: Bario
- Species: Sand Barioth
Sand Barioth are found in the Sandy Plains.
The Sand Barioth preys on Rhenoplos, Delex, Aptonoth and possibly Jaggi if food is short. Like their relatives in the Tundra these Barioth are fearsome top predators armed with deadly weapons. Despite this these Flying Wyverns compete with equally fierce predators such as Rathian, Tigrex, its Subspecies, Nibelsnarf, Great Jaggi, and the voracious Deviljho. These predators will regularly avoid and rarely hunt Rust Duramboros and Diablos as these large, powerful, and aggressive herbivores can easily wound and kill the wyverns.
Sand Barioth is covered in orange-yellow color fur and a carapace, which help it to blend in to its environment. These parts are also perfect for absorbing blows from other larger species of monsters within the Sandy Plains and protection against their own tornadoes. Though a majority of its coloration is orange-yellow, some parts of its body are red due to the blood of its prey. Much like Barioth, Sand Barioth's tusks are indigo in color due to the blood of its prey. Unlike Barioth, Sand Barioth has a different type of sac, known as a Rugged Pleura. This sac helps Sand Barioth breath better in its harsh environment and allows it to produce powerful tornadoes that are much like sandstorms. From a lack of ledges to jump onto, it will use these sandstorms to lunge at prey from a distance. Some more skilled individuals are able to breath smaller tornadoes that can wander around, blocking a prey items path.
Sand Barioth are far more aggressive than Barioth. Sand Barioth have the unusual behavior of rubbing their prey's blood on their body. They will let this blood dry on their face and shell so more sand sticks onto it, toughen its defenses.
