In-Game Information[]

MH3-Rhenoplos Icon

Extremely territorial herbivores with poor vision but acute hearing. Rhenoplos will doggedly pursue any nearby targets they sense. They often collide into boulders, perhaps because they can't easily stop themselves once they begin running.

Taxonomy[]

  • Order: Ornithischia
  • Suborder: Marginocephalia
  • Family: Rhenoplos

Rhenoplos are a part of the Herbivore classification. They have no known relatives though are distantly related to Aptonoth.

Habitat range[]

Rhenoplos can be seen in both the Sandy PlainsVolcano, and Deserted Island in the New World. In the Old World, Rhenoplos have been seen in Sunken Hollow, Volcanic Hollow, Heaven's Mount, Dunes, and the Everwood.

Ecological niche[]

Rhenoplos serve as prey for many monsters, including but not limited to Deviljho, Brachydios, Sand Barioth, and Agnaktor. Jaggi and Wroggi may also attempt to hunt Rhenoplos, though these hunts are often unsuccessful. The presence of a pack leader, however, can greatly increase their odds. Rhenoplos even have to avoid some giant herbivores, such as Rust Duramboros, do to some being known to attack just about anything.

Biological adaptations[]

The average size of an adult Rhenoplos is approximately 536.3cm. While the eyes of Rhenoplos are not particularly proficient, their hearing is. Rhenoplos charge blindly at whatever sound startles them, including large monsters. However, this makes them easy to dodge and easy prey for predators placing them near the bottom of the food chain with most other herbivores. The head protection and short horns coupled with the armor and tail club make it very well protected against smaller monsters, such as Jaggi and Velociprey

Behavior[]

These creatures live in small groups, spending most of their days traversing the hot environments while foraging for shrubs and other plant matter. They are fiercely territorial and will charge with little warning at any hunter within range. They will carry on charging after they have gone past a hunter and if the hunter is in front of a rock, they will ram it, knocking them out cold. This suggests they may have difficulty stopping or turning once they've built up momentum due to their heavy bodies. As they sleep underground to maintain body temperature and escape larger predators, Rhenoplos are observed to surface when others of their kind are in trouble. They are highly protective of their eggs and young which are prized by many hunters and carnivores, including Jaggi and Uroktor.
