Rathian is the female counterpart of the Rathalos and also renowned as The Queen of the Land. Rathians are green wyverns that slightly vary from Rathalos in looks and attacks.
Rathians display all the trademark characteristics: large wings, hind legs only, and a long tail. Their build is slightly stockier than a Rathalos and the profile is less aerodynamic due to its spiked barbs. Due to their terrestrial nature, the largest Rathian are bigger than Rathalos however this is very uncommon.
She has a patch of brown thorns on her upper back and her tail spikes are filled with poison. The Rathian fights on the ground a lot more than the Rathalos, who more often exhibits aerial attacks such as fireballs and claw attacks.
Rathians are very territorial, choosing to patrol from ground while her male counterpart patrols from the sky. It will become very aggressive to potential threats, especially when it is taking care of its young.
Rathians can survive in almost any territory as long as the temperature is right for rearing young and food supplies are plentiful.

Rathian and Rathalos actually have the same base health. However, their resulting health is also calculated by the amount of stars a quest has. This means that the Rathalos will have more health in his own quests (his quests have more stars than Rathian's), but the Rathian and Rathalos will have the same health in the "Double Trouble" and "Mating Season" quests.
When Rathian is low on stamina, her fire breath fails. However, those that are too close to her mouth can still be hurt from the flame.
Rathian's tail attacks will cause the poison status. The attacks that cause this are, by taking a few steps back then jumping into the air in a flip or going directly into the flip while she is in the air.
Even when her tail has been severed, Rathian's back flip attack can still poison hunters.
Rathian is capable of doing an aerial roar like Rathalos, although it is very rare due to her being on the ground most of the time.
Rathian and Rathalos will always go after hunters that are carrying their eggs.
Rathians body structure seems to be thicker than Rathalos in 3rd and 4th gen.
