Prowler Mode (ニャンタ Nyanta) is an alternate mode of play that allows players to play as a Felyne, which changes up some of the usual mechanics of the game. It was introduced in Monster Hunter Generations.

Overview[]

MHGen-Palico Equipment Render 007

Playing a Felyne has its advantages and disadvantages. As a Felyne, players aren't limited by stamina, are much more agile, and are allowed 2 faints before actually counting for a cart. To compensate, the Felynes are much weaker/fragile when compared to Hunters (especially in G-Rank), have no invincibility when dodging (with certain exceptions), and cannot utilize the same items a Hunter can. They can still carry said items, however, so they still benefit from carrying Power/Armor Charms and Talons.

Those who are using Prowler Mode can use a wide assortment of Support Actions that can be used for support or offense. They also have close and far combat capabilities, making them a very versatile choice that any meownster hunter can enjoy!

Notable Skills[]

  • Boomerang Pro - Boomerangs charge faster, fly faster, and return faster. Minimum lvl 5, Uses one slot.
  • Earplugs - Negates most monster roars. Minimum lvl 10, Uses two slots.

  • Burrowing Blow - Burrow under the ground, then rush upwards to attack. This action may be used underground.

Traits and Strategy[]

Boomerang skills greatly aid in the damage you can do and are the meta option when it comes to using Prowler seriously. Combining Piercing Boomerang and Big Boomerang will greatly add to your DPS, and shave a lot of time off of your hunts. Earplugs is a good skill, allowing you to attack while a monster is roaring. Especially helpful for a monster with a long roar. Boomerang Boost allows you faster charging times, and your boomerangs fly faster, allowing for more boomerang hits during a monster's roar, and just in general.

Those in Prowler Mode have an enraged state. Whilst you are a Prowler, there is a hidden gauge that builds up over time and with damage. When you are enraged, you gain: 30% Affinity, Earplugs, Quicker meter gain, faster dodging, and the unlocking of the X + A attack.

Monster Hunter Double Cross/Generations Ultimate added the Beast Bias, allowing Prowlers to switch into Beast Mode with the Release the Beast skill. During Beast Mode, your attacks completely change and you are able to gain buffs by doing finishers. After you gain these buffs, you can transfer them to others or extend the duration of them by using Rousing Roar.

Controls[]

Normal Controls[]

- Melee attack. Can be continued into a combo. The first swing is a low side swipe. The second is another side swipe and is slightly more powerful and moves forward a bit. The third attack is a jumping downwards swing that is great for hitting those monster limbs that you can't quite reach. The fourth is another jumping attack, but it lands a bit earlier. The final attack is Furris Wheel, a powerful spinning aerial attack capable of hitting 10 times. Keep in mind that the finisher's individual hits are very weak, so get in as many as you can!

R + X - Goes straight into the third part of the normal combo and continues from there.

- Ranged attack. Throws out a boomerang that deals a small amount of damage. If you hold A, you will begin to charge your boomerang. This not only makes all of your boomerangs fly faster, but also makes them much more powerful. You can press the A button again to throw a second boomerang that is weaker than the first, but allows you to move back by holding the joystick in opposite direction of where you are facing. Pressing A once more will make you perform a spinning finisher (named Boomerush), rushing you forward and dealing significant damage. The properties of this finisher change if the effects of Piercing Boomerangs and/or Big Boomerangs are active. You can aim more precisely by holding R.

Boomerang modifiers:

  • Big Boomerangs - Increases the size and damage of all thrown boomerangs. Slightly increases damage of Boomerush.
  • Piercing Boomerangs - Increases the number of hits of thrown boomerangs from 1 to 4. Makes Boomerush hit 4 times instead of twice.

Any boomerang attack (excluding Boomerush) -> X - Performs a jumping forward thrust. Unlike the other aerial moves, this allows you to mount monsters. Pressing X once again puts you into the 4th part of the X combo.

Any aerial attack (excluding Furris Wheel) -> A - Performs the Boomerush.

X + A after any attack (excluding finishers) - Causes you to go into the Fury Rush combo, but can only be done when you are in enraged. Makes you blindly swing left and right and can be extended by pressing X. Press X + A to end with an Aerial Finisher.

R - Causes you to block.

R + B (Weapon Sheathed) - Makes you burrow underground. While underground you are invulnerable to most all attacks, but monster roars force you to exit.

Minus Button - When your weapon is sheathed you perform a very weak kick. If your weapon is unsheathed, you will perform the third attack of the X combo.

Bias-specific Moves[]

[Fighting and Charisma] Aerial Hop: B - Replaces your normal dodge with a hop. Landing on monsters or other hunters will cause you to jump high into the air. If your using Charisma Bias, you can only do this move while Palico Rally is active. If your using Fighting Bias, you can do this while your enraged or while Furr-ious is active.

[Bomb] Adept Evade: Get hit just as you dodge - Causes a Bomb Barrel to appear where you got hit, and makes you roll. You are not invincible while rolling but you can cancel it with X. If your in the Enrage state, you can press X + A to do the Fury Rush finisher.

[Gathering, Healing, and Assist] Third Boomerang: A, A, A - Throws a third boomerang that is stronger than the first. The wind-up can deal damage if you are close enough.

[Protection] Adept Block: R just as your about to be hit - Causes you to block any attack, ignoring all damage and knockback, and allows you to immediately retaliate with Furris Wheel (X), Boomerush (A), another Adept Block (R), or a Dodge (B).

Beast Mode Controls[]

X - Basic melee combo. The first attack hits twice and moves you forward a bit. The second attack will make you walk forward, slowly swinging your claws 3 times. The third makes you jump backwards while slashing with both of your claws. For your finisher (Claw-some Finisher) you'll charge up before leaping into the air.

Claw-some Finisher - This finisher has special properties. Firstly, upon landing a hit with this move you will gain a Beast Level, granting the following buffs:

  • Level 1: Gain the effect of Tremor Resistance, Earplugs, and Wind Proof (Lo)
  • Level 2: +15% Affinity
  • Level 3: Grants SP Mode (Can be transferred to others by using Rousing Roar)

Secondly, if you are at Beast Level 3 you will automatically perform Hyper Claw-some Finisher, letting you to redirect yourself before spinning in a flurry of slashes. Keep in mind that you will not level up if you get hit before you perform the level up animation!

A - (Not moving) Jump up into the air, slashing downwards with both claws. (Moving) Dash forward while spinning around. Can be charged by holding A. These moves chain into each other if you press A again.

X + A - Sends you flying forward, cutting down monsters in front of you. Can only be used when your enraged.

R - Makes you perform a backstep. Can be performed consecutively, but only up to 3 times. Also allows you to cancel certain moves.
