[edit] Hammer Guide

Fortuan 16:44, 15 June 2009 (UTC) Using the hammer on Narga is VERY tricky. I consider my strongest weapons the hammer and greatsword and I avoid using the hammer on Narga. But like ANY weapon on ANY monster it CAN be done. When I do fight the Narga with the hammer I make sure that I do get traps x-tra potions and anything that can help. I do suggest keeping your helper cat from using bombs since it will enrage Narga everytime. I also suggest a fire hammer or a high damage hammer.

For the most part it is a hit and run situation. Charge, slam, roll and run. Rinse and repeat. Like Tigrex try to stay away from being directly infront of it with the hammer due to the inability to block. I suggest working on the legs and when that wonderfully long taunt from Narga comes wail on his head with the standing 3 combo. the MOST dangerous attack from Narga is the dreaded tail slam. When you see Narga roar for his tail slam MOVE. Try rolling away to the side and away from Narga if your roll is successful then wailing on his arm while he is stuck can be a treat.

[edit] Lance Guide (item costy)

When it comes to hunting Narga, there is one key to beating him, and that is patience. Unlike other weapons you cannot simply dodge roll and attack once again. SO you must be very patient. Killing him is very easy. For this things that are necessary with the lance are as many heals, shock traps (tools to make shock traps), you can bring flashes but he tends to go crazy, mega demondrugs, power juices. Now first thing you do is paint him, and he will usually attack you can if you dodge out of the way. Then set up a shock trap. Pull out you lance and shield behind the shock trap. He will soon jump or run at you and get shocked. make sure you are spaced right so you can hit his head.*the thing that made this so easy was that i used my Devta Serpentblade which is poison, POISON HELPS BIG TIME!* Now what you want to do is keep hitting his head and head locking him. Just keep doing this and repeating. If he jumps away then just guard until he jumps back at you. Just keep repeating this until he finally goes into his berserk mode and gets angry. *THIS IS WHERE YOU MUST BE PATIENT*******. When he gets angry just guard the whole time and do some small pokes to try and poison him. but make sure you are guarding the whole time or you will probably die. When he gets out of crazy mode, just repeat what i told you before, and after 10-15 mins he should be dead (that is with poison). -When he does that tail flip thing that can 1 hi K.O. you, he curls his tail and spikes come out, when this happens shield. To prevent myself from dying from this attack i don't do 3 stabs with the lance i only do 2 or 1 while fighting so i can shield just in case.

[edit] Lance Guide (non-item costy)

Like the previous lance guide suggested, patience is essential in beating the Naruga. Yes, Bombs and shock traps can make the battle easy for you. But if you tend to get low on supplies or if that strategy doesn't work for you - then, consider the damage of your own equipment. Try using a lance imbued with a fire or electric element, otherwise use a lance with decently high raw attack power and/or affinity. The secret to this is having skills like Runner (but if you want to be item costy, try power juices). This strategy involves ramming straight with the lance charge countless times and at the same time great shielding reflexes for enemy charges. Thus would result to a "bull battle" wherein two opponents charge unto another and eventually switch positions until a victor is declared. But in this "bull battle"... you have the advantage seeming as you can shield. It involves good timing and requires knowledge of the Naruga's cooldown duration. Because all you have to do is charge right at the Naruga when you find an opening or when it uses its ranged attacks. When in rage, simply lessen the charging and rely more on the shielding. Moments when your life is low or when it is in rage would require you to shift into a more shield-like-counter phase that involves an exchange of attacks wherein you again have the advantage due to your shield. Do this till you see it limp and go for the capture or you may as well kill it. While in the fight, remember to stay alert, be careful and KEEP YOUR HP updated so you don't get combo'd to death or one hit ko'ed. (PS. Remember to pray for Divine Providence, etc..... it helps)

[edit] SnS Guide

The following items are what you should take, a * indicates it is optional and BoC indicates Book of Combos:

1 shock trap 10 mega potions sonic bombs* armor charm* BoC 2 whetstones
1 pitfall trap 10 potions power talon 1 ancient potion* BoC 3 10 honey
2 trap tools 10 herbs* armor talon 2 max potions*

BoC 4

 1 armor skin*
2 nets 10 blue mushrooms* power charm* BoC 1 Steaks

Recommended weapon: Golden Falchion <252 att/ 480 fire>

Recommended skills: att up or element att up, auto tracker (optional)

Reccomended felyne skills (should you choose to take yours):  Shock Trap

This section describes the various attacks/movements of Nargacuga:

  • Prowler stance: Narga jumps backwards then growls, great opportunity to land some hits in.
  • Tail swipe: Narga raises his tail then sweeps it in the direction he faces. Avoid it by dodge rolling right before it hits you, this takes practice.
  • Tail slam: Narga's most devastating attack, he turns about 150 degrees leaning towards the left side, slamming his tail on you, this attack is coming when his tail makes a swirling sound while in a stance simmilar to prowler. Avoid it by running to the left (running left requires more distance) or right then dodge rolling, may require some practice.
  • Tail spikes: Narga raises his tail with a swirling sound then launches spikes at you (this is done when you're a certain distance in front of him and can be close to far range). Avoid it by blocking, dodging, or moving out of the way; this will not hit you if you are attacking under him.
  • Multi-leap unraged: Narga leaps in the direction he faces 2 - 3 times then growls at the end of the attack, a great chance to hit him. Avoid by staying on the opposite side he faces (if he faces left stay on his right side), if you can't get on the opposite side block.
  • Multi-leap raged: Narga does the same as above but ends the attack with a boomerang or an extra leap forward. Avoid by staying on the opposite side and be aware he may jump back.
  • Single leap raged/unraged: Narga will leap one time then either turn to face you or do a boomerang leap. Avoid by blocking in his direction or dodging (enraged he tends to do the boomerang more often).
  • Charge: Narga runs toward you then does one of two things: bites (the foot counts as a bite if it hits you) or tail swipes. Avoid by dodging or blocking.

This section goes in depth on attacking Nargacuga with minimal risk:

First and foremost do not get greedy! Stick with the 3 hit combo unless you have a chance to do more. Your focus will be attacking from under narga while he is not raged and focusing on his tail when he's enraged (the tail can only be cut while enraged, if you want the tail dont pitfall as pitfalls tend to kill them extremely fast). After the 3 hit combo run to either side and dodge roll, this ensures you never get hit by a tail slam. The same strategy works for attacking the head and wings. Upon entering the room set the shock trap and lure the narga into it (if the narga doesnt see you then you may attack it before setting the shock trap). When it goes into rage mode dodge roll away from it and set the pitfall trap, immeadiately defend in the narga's direction upon setting the trap, lure it into the trap (defend against the attacks); it is wise to keep the pitfall on a quick access slot (mine are kept next to my potions) because if you take too long setting it up you won't have time to defend and will get hit. Eating, sharpening, and healing should be done when Narga does a multi leap or tail slam as they leave you plenty of time for the delay the actions cause. Combining should only be done when you change rooms; in other words once narga flies to another room combine what you need (potions, pitfalls, etc). Only combine during combat if absolutely neccesary. I reccomend using one trap per room with exception to the shock trap; in other words one pitfall per room, this prevents you from wasting traps. Lastly simply reading this won't make the narga any easier without practice, so practice with Nekoht's: Secret Request: Nargacuga! Also watching a SnS guide on youtube helps. Any questions? I can be contacted on minegarde with the below name. Good luck and happy hunting.

-Nargacuga SnS guide by Kyubi

This is a different sword and shield guide by DragonLord Seth, aiming for people that prefer lower rank weapons and armor and a comrade that doesn't use bombs.

Item List

10 Potions

10 Mega Potions

20 Whetstones

Pitfall Trap

Shock Trap

2 Trap Tools

2 Genprey Fangs

2 Trang Bombs (only if your going for capturing it)

Farcaster

3 Paintballs

3 Psychorosums

Powertalon

Armortalon

Thats all of the items that you need, if your good at blocking, you won't use a lot of Mega Potions.

Weapon:  Kirin Bolt Indora or Flame Syphos.

Armor:  Full Rathalos soul armor gemmed to have attack up large, and all level 13.  I had over 350 defense and with the Kirin Bolt Indora around 250 attack, and 270 with the Flame Syphos.

Tactics:  Unless you eat some stuff in your camp, Narga will be in area 6, if you do, it'll be in the cave area.

Place a shock trap down and get a painball ready, it'll turn around and roar.  After the roar it'll either do a jump or a charge, when it gets stuck in the trap, start attacking its tail.  After it gets out of the trap, combine a traptool and genprey fang to make another trap, put it down and wait for it to get stuck, when it does, attack its tail more.  keep attacking the tail until it flinches and the tail breaks.  a little bit after that Narga will become enraged, keep attacking the tail until it comes off.  The tail will ONLY come off in enraged mode, but if you can make it flinch a third time after the break, a single attack will cut the tail off.

When it becomes enraged, put the pitfall trap down and whale on its head.  when it limps and flies off to area 6, its weakened and is ready to be captured, its esier to get Narga Brain Stem from a tail carve or capture.

Congratulations!  You just killed or captured a Nargacuga!  The armor isn't good for the offline level 9 quests, as you have to kill a Silver Rathalos, Gold Rathian, and Rajang, which use fire and thinder, which the armor isn't good against.  Its good for the G* quests because of the lack of a lot fire or thunder monsters.
