Wyverns are the most common class of monster in Monster Hunter. There are two subclasses of wyvern: bipedal (two legs) and quadrupedal (four legs). Wyverns with two legs tend to be fliers, in contrast to wyverns with four legs who tend to fight on ground. Wyverns can reach many sizes, from small to titantic. Although all wyverns have wings, not all of them can fly often, or even fly at all.
MH3: Wyvern larvae. Reasonably fecund, they can survive in any dark environment. Giggi are sensitive to light and heat, and so avoid torches. They are also known to leech from other animals, converting it into toxins.
MHFU: Small wyverns with outstanding flying abilities, they loiter in the skies waiting to prey upon weakened animals. Known to attack alongside Elder Dragons, they are known as an omen to disaster.
MH3U: An azure-colored subspecies of Rathalos. More mobile than their standard cousin, they locate prey from the air and quickly swoop in for the kill. Once these master hunters select a target, there is little hope of escape.
MHFU: A large wyvern found in volcanic zones. They are the juvenile form of the Gravios. They have a steel-like carapace that requires powerful items to crack. Emits poison gas.
MH3U: These black-shelled Diablos are treated as a subspecies, but are actually just normal female Diablos in heat. The color change is a warning to other creatures, as they tend to become extremely aggressive during mating season.
MHFU: Two-horned wyverns found in desert zones. They are capable of burrowing into sand to attack prey from below. Incredibly violent and proud, they are known to unleash terrible wrath when accosted.
MH3U: A rare variant of Rathian with a beautiful golden body reminiscent of the moon. Little is known about their behavior or physiology--including the source of their rich golden sheen.
MHFU: A large wyvern found in volcanic zones. They possess a fiery breath attack and the ability to emit a sleeping gas. They also have extremely hard scales that deflect most weapon attacks.
MHFO 9.0: A monster that was recently discovered, Gurenzeburu makes its home in the Highland. Using the Hunter's Guild research, it was found to be remarkably violent, and so it has been given the nickname Banryu(Barbaric Dragon).
MHFU: Loathsome wyverns that live inside caves. Near blind, they detect their prey by smell. They are capable of generating electric shocks, which they use to paralyze their prey.
MHFU: A large-horned wyvern found in desert zones. Their giant horn makes their attacks very dangerous. While they have no breath attack, their ear-splitting roar is the bane of hunters.
MH3U: A subspecies of Rathian with vibrant pink scales. Pink Rathian wield their toxic tails more skillfully than normal Rathian, using a wide variety of attacks to weaken their prey before eventually moving in for the kill.
MHFU: Male wyvern that keeps a nest and patrols its patch of territory from the air in search of prey. Its claws are filled with a poison that weakens its quarry.
MHFU: Female version of the Rathalos wyvern. Unlike its male counterpart, it usually patrols its territory from the ground. Its tail spikes are filled with poison.
MH3U: A rare variant of Rathalos with a beautiful silver body reminiscent of the sun. Little is known about their behavior or physiology--including the source of their rich silver sheen.
Quadrupedal Wyverns, commonly referred to as Psuedowyverns, are Wyverns with forelimbs adapted to running. They all possess extreme power and speed, so caution is advised when fighting them.
MHFU: A wyvern truly wrapped in mystery. Known to some as the black god and to others as the tyrant of fire, this large and brutal creature is known to the Guild simply as Akantor...
MH3U: A subspecies of Gigginox that uses electricity to stun prey. It is believed to be a random mutation, and as such sightings are relatively rare. It may be possible to weaken its electrical powers by destroying the capacitor organs on its body.
MH3: Wyverns that rule the eternally frozen Tundra. Barioth use their huge tusks and spiked scales to move freely atop the slippery ice; this ability makes them very difficult to keep up with.
Dyuragaua is an ice-element Pseudowyvern featured in the Monster Hunter Frontier Season 8.0. The Dyuragaua was discovered making a nest in the Old Tower ruins, suggesting it may have avoided human contact for a long time. It is only because of the recent discovery of its Nest Hole that Dyuragaua was forced out of hiding.
MH3: Wyverns that inhabit the Tundra. Known to stun prey with poison, then freeze the meat in caves. Gigginox live in darkness and thus have degraded vision; they detect prey through body heat. Extremely fertile, laying innumerable eggs.
MH3U: A Nargacuga subspecies with mottled fur that allows it to blend into the foliage of verdant areas like the Flooded Forest and the Deserted Island. It is quite skilled in the use of its tail, the spikes of which are said to be extremely deadly.
MH3U: A rare species of Nargacuga whose behavior and habitat are shrouded in mystery. Legend claims it appears on foggy nights at a remote and well-hidden location, but the veracity of this claim is still being researched by the guild.
MHFU: A uniquely-evolved wyvern that calls the forest its home. It hides itself in the shadows and slyly stalks its prey with terrifying speed and tenacity. Its unique tail can take down a medium-sized monster in a single swish.
Pariapuria is a four-legged amphibious monster that lives in the watery caves of the Gorge. Pariapuria was first seen during Monster Hunter Frontier 5.0 update. It has a long blue tongue and a long tail used for propelling itself in water.
MH3U: A Barioth subspecies that resides in the Sandy Plains. Their breath is strong enough to generate tornados, which they then use to travel at high speeds. Their yellow carapaces are tinted red, and their fangs shine deep blue when polished.
MHFU: A flying wyvern that maintains its primitive origins. Prone to violence, it possesses incredible ferocity thanks to its four limbs, claws, and jaws. Inhabits a wide area, it has even been spotted hunting Popo in the mountains.
MHFU: A mysterious wyvern said to only appear after large avalanches deep in the snowy mountains. Often seen crushing ice balls and rock into powder in its stride, it’s known to the Guild as Ukanlos, although there are whisperings that it may be the white god…
