[edit] Easy Monoblos and White Monoblos Fight

A rather easy method i have found to fight the monoblos and also sometimes the diablos, is to use a gunlance. I know this sounds crazy, but if you have some good armor, a stong gunlance with a spread shot, and a lotta stamina items this is quite an easy quest. I recommend the Hellsting and its upgrades as the best weapon. If possible, using the psychic vision with physic jewels can be a huge advantage. Most of the time, it is best to keep your gunlance on your back until you are ready to attack. the best time to attack is when the blos rams into a wall and gets his horns stuck, you run up and draw your gunlance stabbing him anywhere but his head and wings, then let off all your shots. If you have wyverns's fire, that should be top priority to use. constantly check for your gunlance to cool down so you can release a barrage of super power on the blos. try your best to not break the blos's horns, so you can let him get his horns stuck in the wall. when a blos jumps up from his dig, you have a great chance to shoot him once and get out without injury. and if he turns and begins to charge you, use your shield which a blos cannot ram through and hurt you. Just remember, timing is key as well as blocking, and having high stamina is a vital part of a gunlance. Now get out there and burn some blos!!!!

Another really easy way to take out Monoblos (and Diablos as well) is with the bowgun.  In the zones where there's a shelf, two, nine, and ten, stay on the shelf.  From there you'll be out of reack of most of their moves, provided you stay away from the edge.  Reccommended bullets and Pierce and Crag.  Coupled with Genprey U Armor and Fate Gems, this approach makes for a much easier time getting Monoblos Heart.

[edit] Items to Bring

  • 10x Potion
  • 10x Mega Potion (If you tend to get hit a lot)
  • 10x Herb and Blue Mushroom combination for Potion
  • Whetstones (amount depends on your weapons sharpness)
  • Shock Traps (Pitfall traps do NOT work)
  • Sonic Bombs (throw at him while going underground, right when tail goes underground; only works when calm)
  • Flash Bombs (use these when he is in rage)
  • Bombs (Large Barrel Bombs, Small Barrel Bombs) Optional, make things faster.
  • Bowgun Ammo (Bowgun Users only) Ice, Pierce, Normal, whatever else.
  • Power/Poison/Whatever Coatings (Bow Users)

[edit] Weaknesses

  • Monoblos- Thunder on Tail Stub
  • White Monoblos – Thunder on Tail Stub
  • Diablos- Ice on Tail Stub
  • Black Diablos- Ice on Tail Stub

[edit] Attacks –

All Blos Family:

Charge (Medium-High) (Slow): The Blos will do a slow charge at you, causing damage. Getting hit by the legs/back hurts less than the head.

Tail Whip (Low-Medium) (Fast): The Blos’s tail will swing twice- to its right, then its left.

Underground Bury (Medium-High) (Fast): Monoblos will burrow underground, staying there for a few seconds. Then it will travel somewhere else in the area, kicking up dirt to show its path. You can throw a Sonic Bomb when its not in Rage Mode to get it stuck in the ground, offering many free attacks.

Hip Check (Low-Medium): Does a sharp hipcheck.

Roar: Does an annoying roar with a larger radius than the average wyvern. If you were behind it, you have a chance of dodging, unless its in rage mode. Or you can guard if you have a GS/Lance/SnS

Rage Mode Growl (Nothing-Very Low): Scratches the ground with one foot and growls. Black smoke should be at the mouth, and there should be markings on the forehead.

[edit] Strategy

1. Grab something from the Felyne Kitchen, maybe an Attack Up or a Health Up, maybe Defense Up.

2. Grab your items and go into your quest.

3. Once loaded, grab the stuff you need from the Blue Box, and head backwards in the tunnel to Area 6. Go to Area 7, and wait a little while. The Blos Monster will eventually tunnel out and onto the surface. This is the monster you will face. Wait for it to charge at you, then jump/roll/walk out of the way. Paint it.

[edit] How to Fight

A.How to use the Bombs: Go directly on the side of a flat wall, set the Lg Barrel bombs. Wait for it to charge at you, and then roll. If done correctly, it will now have slid onto the area with the Bombs. Wait for it to get up, then run in and set the Small Barrel Bombs.

B:You can also set off Lg Barrel Bombs without using the Small Barrel Bombs. Use: Boomerang, a GS/LS/Hammer, a Bow/Bowgun to shoot it, or just hit the Bomb and take some damage.

C:Cutting the Tail (Blademaster/ Bow Melee Attack): The Blos will dig in the Earth, right? Then it will go up into the surface, and it will usually do a Tail Whip. Wait for it to do the Tail Whip, then after it does/doesn’t, run in and slash the tail. Repeat. You can use this strategy to attack it also from the tail after cutting it. With this, you can even nail it in the head with correct timing!

D:Attack the Legs: After it does its tail whip, run in and attack one leg. It will eventually trip, giving many free attacks.

E:Use the Sonic Bombs: Check that it’s not in Rage Mode (Red on its head), and if it isn’t, wait for it to bury underground. Throw the Sonic Bomb at that location, and it will suddenly spring up. Run in and attack! It will eventually spring up, flying for a short period of time.

F:Long Combo the legs (Blademaster Only): After making sure it won’t do the tail whip, run in the back and attack one leg with a Long Combo.

G:Break the Horn: Breaking the horn will give you a Item such as Twisted Horn, Wht Monoblos Horn, Blood Red Horn, and more. These items are used in creations of weapons and armor. The horn is located on its face, and will turn into a stub when broken. Use the Sonic Bomb Strategy, and attack it’s face after it pops up. Another way to break its horn(s) is when you are in area 7, wait for it to charge at you and make sure you are behind the "pillar" in the middle of the area. If done correctly, the monster will charge into the pillar and become stuck. It will begin trying to free its horn. At this point it cannot attack you and you are free to openly attack its head, which will eventually lead to breaking its horn. If it doesn't break the first time you get it stuck, try to get it stuck again.

H1:Area 3 or 9 Tip (Blademaster): If its horn is not broken yet, you can stand on the ledge and wait for it to charge. When it gets stuck, jump off the ledge and attack. Repeat.

H2:Area 3 or 9 Tip (Gunner): Stand on the ledge and attack.

H3:Area 7 Tip (Gunner or Blademaster): When the Blos is about to charge, run/roll behind the large rock in the center. It will get stuck in the rock if it still has a horn, which is the same as "ledging." Attack at will and repeat.

[edit] FAQ

Add your questions here.

Q. When will a blos drop a shiny?

A. If they get their horn(s) stuck in a wall, there is a chance that they will drop a shiny

Q. How do I get the horn when its broken off ?

A. After you break its horn, just kill it and you will get the proper horn depending on which type of blos you killed. Normal Monoblos will give you a blood red horn, while diablos will either give you a twisted horn or if your lucky, a majestic horn. As for white monoblos, you get a silver horn. For black diablos, either a black twisted horn, a normal twisted horn, or a majestic horn. (a larger chance for a majestic horn is in G rank quests)

Q. Are either of the Blos Family weak to Dragon (Having just made Titernia)?

A. No, the Monoblos/White Monoblos is weak to Thunder

Diablos/Black Diablos is weak to Ice

A2. Yes the diablos is weak to Dragon but only in mh2 (I tested it with RDS)

Q. what is a shiny?

A. When certain criteria are met (Monoblos getting his horn stuck in a wall, throwing a Sonic Bomb at Yian Kut-ku, etc.) there is a chance a small shiny ball will be at their feet blinking slowly. This is what is called a "shiny", you can read up on them from your bookshelf in your house, just to the right of the entrance to the felyne kitchen, it is referred to as a "Fallen Objects". To get this part of the info magazine go Info magazine --> Monster Compendium --> Fallen Objects. You just walk up and hit O without a weapon equipped (as if you were gathering.)

Q. Is Eager Cleaver A Good Weapon? Is Full Hermitaur Good Enough?

A. Eager Cleaver is a very good weapon, and if you are sure you will not get hit often, almost any armor will be enough. The full hermitaur G rank armour is a wonderful set for the blos, you lose a tiny amount of damage per hit.
