[edit] 1. Intro
This FAQ was born before the Shen-Gaoren quest & yet, this FAQ is a great way for fighting a Giant Crab. The FAQ will be the G-Class meaning the Hunter's who are + type H R or G-ranked H R will noted this Faq is for those who are poor on Fighting Shen-Gaoren. Until then, the FAQ itself will describe recommended weapons & will also noted that severel quest will be completed before doing the HR 3-4 urgent Gaoren. Also, in the Strategies section, weapons marked with (OFF) means is for Offline & (ON) means for Online. oh yeah, this guide doesn't have a Sns guide or DS guide because it's hard & nothing worths against Gaoren. this guide also Include Online rather than Offline.
Note: Until the Final version, I'll be listing the weapons that I used & letting you go to www.youtube.com for more Gaoren Fights.
[edit] 2. About Shen-Gaoren
Gaoren is a Giant, Oversized Crab & he's huge & I think the guild said all defense are setted up to protect before the fort is infested. like Lao, you got a long way to go. She-Gaoren is known for is Hard Skeleton because normally green sharpness will not penetrate & while the blue/white Sharpness can penetrate. Plus, you need to watch out when he attacks:
Claw Slam: do massive damage (for those wearing Hunter armor)
Dancing: sounds silly; his pincers tap the ground & he moves his legs up-n-down & for Bowmens, quickly run to the back
Claw slam II: Gaoren drag his pair of pincers up & begin to slam at the fort. does the same but decrease the Fort's health mediumly.
Shell Cannon: WOAH!!! I will say, this can one-hit kill you because if you carve at the shell, don't; this will decrease the Fort's health at gradual rate.
Weak spot: 1.Shell Connector, perfect for hammering/ hammerors. 2.Head, hard to get to only worth it if he's on floor.

you may wanna fight Shen Gaoren is because: = you need about 2 repels for the Bronze Fire, a second-hand strongest bowgun that capable of firing both Clust S Lv1/2/3 & Dragon S. = you need a good Lance to pierce the shell for Gaoren spine or Shell. = you need to fufil the quest completions:
HR 3 Gaoren (Fort): Deadly combat, Diablos Swamp Intense Figh (Gravimos in Japanese) The King of FnH (Los) the Wyvern queen of the Jungle (Ian)
Elder Gaoren (Dondoruma Town): kill 2 of every monster excludes the ancient dragons/rajang/gaoren(obviously).

[edit] Recommended Skills
Blademaster:
ESP: Is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED since Shen Gaoren is known for its hard shell and at HR3 there aren't that much weapons with a lot of blue/white sharpness.
Sharpness+1: will be extremely useful since you need weapons in the blue/white sharpness so weapons do not bounce off the shell.
RA+1/2/3: another useful skill set to have to increase the percentage of dealing critical damage.
Sharp Sword: reduces sharpness lost by half, so this will increase the duration before your weapon sharpness drops to the next level.
Med/Lg Atk boost: this is recommended since Gaoren has a large chunk HP.
Quake Resistance: cancels the effects of quake on your character so you can attack freely.
Gunner:
Felyne Heroics: if you have a Felyne with this skill it will help a lot to increase your bow or bowgun damage. Downside is you need to lower your HP to 10% to activate it.
Adrenaline+2(Potential+2): this skill is similar to Felyne Heroics but to have this skill kick in, lower your HP until it drops to below 40%. In MHF2 this stacks with Felyne Heroics.
Speed Fire: this skill decreases the charge time for bows and shots only needs to be reloaded when changing to a different type. Just remember if your bowguns has Rapid fire for a type of shot it has to be reloaded.
Load Up: adds one more shell to the capacity bowguns, activates the 4th level charge on bows
Med/Lg Atk boost: this is recommended since Gaoren has a large chunk HP.
[edit] Fort/Town Support Weaponry
CAPCOM designed to keep the Fort from Giant Carapceons because CAPCOM is being helpful:
Cannon S: This are heavy Cannonballs that are transported like the MHF1 Carrying Mission but transporting this will need you to avoid Iopreys but Iopreys can be cleared with a partner with you; the Cannon you must shoot rather close range (not close to the Fort okay?). Not very useful and is too cumbersome when you are solo.
Ballista S: Take the Ballista S rounds from the supply bin and gather near the rack of spears in the camp. The max stack of this is 10. This looks like a large double crossbow. Select the Ballista S round from the quick access invetory slot and press [] when near the Ballista. Press R for fist person targeting view. Very useful in breaking the shell of Shen Gaoren if you have dealt enough damage.
The Dragonator: This appears to be two metal spikes that spring out at high velocity and hits the target. Press O near the large circular button on the top of the fort to use this. Use only when Shen Gaoren is about to use the Shen Beam so you stagger Shen Gaoren and effectively disrupt his use of the Beam and deal damage to Shen Gaoren in the process.

Q: I had one minute left and Shen Gaoren had destroyed the castle. I used the following. Teostra artillery, Attack Up (med) Armour, Dragonator, Large Barrel Bombs (Supply), 3 Large Barrel Bombs, all ammo useable, 6 Ballistas and that's it. How can I improve my fight, and anyway thanks. (blade sssss)
A: To ensure that Gaoren will never destroy the Fort, you need a stronger Light Bowgun & repel him about 2 rounds to get the Bronze Fire. The Teostra Artilery you have is not strong enough to kill or repel Gaoren. Get a Lao Cannon or Emperor Lao cannon.
Q: Why do you require the people having trouble killing Shen-Gaoren to gather armor and weapons that you obtain in later quests? And why do you need (as said in the supply requirements) so many expensive things like a Powercharm and Powertalon?
A: I repelled Gaoren while using the tigrex tooth(816dmg),the Kushala Glare(58def),Guardian Spirit Raiment(60def),Guardian Spirit Vambraces(52def), Death Stench Bowels(60def), Guardian Spirit Boots(54def)
Q: Is a hammer good to use because i've seen heaps use it and kill Gaoren like if it was a Kut-Ku.
A: It's a good weapon to use agaist him if you know how to and if you can get to the connector, it will be a brezze. A hammer with 700+ attack power and green sharpness+ will be beautiful.

[edit] 1. Bowgun/Bow
Bronze Fire (OFF/ON): If you can repel Shen-Gaoren 2 times, this will be a Trump card because can shoot Clust S Lv1/2/3, Pierce S Lv1/3 (good but with couples of V-prey Fangs) & Dragon S; the little problem is that it's shoot's Pierce S Lv1 to 3 so the Limitation of Pin tunas is 30.
Jade Tempest: This same as the Lao stuff; like the Lao FAQ, the Jade Tempest is Vital between Victory or Defeat.
Titan Launcher: Good for Gaoren Battles because can shoot Pierce S Lv2/3 & Clust S Lv2/3.
Uranos Grenade: If you can collect enough materials plus the Black Grav Shell, this goes for the Vital stuff.
Supreme Lao-Shan Cannon: not recommended unless if you want to waste time on Lv3 shots.
Tiger Arrow II: ugh... many thread replies & yet, is worth it to get this because you need also a skill called "Load up" which can access Lv4 charge, yes Lv4 charge because the lv4 Pierce will do 6 maximum hits.
Strategy: You got the wits as the bullet master? well, watch the video, a very irritating video of patience; snipe the inner shell, it's Gaoren's hidden weak spot & while archers may ethier shoot the head or the Inner shell because they both are weak spot & while seem irritating, Gaoren stands up if he spot a higher platform & this will render the shots or arrows reach useless & hunters may wanna avoid carving it's back & the Shell cannon will blast in 10 secs before that & avoiding it will give the chance for Gunners/archers to hit the connector of the shell; once their Pierce Shots Lv1/3 run outs due to the V-prey fang they brought is short & Pin Tunas are used up for combination, they must switch to Clust shots because is an advantage. in area 5, after all the Clust S Lv3 ran out (unless your Gun can access), another Gunner will shoot Pierce S lv2 & 3; if your team digram is correct like: Hunter 1: Bronze Fire, Jade tempest, Uranos Grenade & Tiger Arrow II; congratulations for unlocking the most annoying g-ranked quest & plus, if you have carve enough shells, you can buy a Vermilion Rim. I suggest with your buddies, this will work. It can be completed solo with a G-rank bow or bowgun (Akantor bow) but Adrenaline +2 and Felyne Heroics are required.

Greatsword:
Shiny Rathalos Sword: Okay & has 864 Raw atk power & 520 for the Fire Attribute.
Khezu Shock Blade: PERFECT! the Raw Atk Power is 960 while the Thunder Atribute is 250.
Pael Keizah: This GS has perfect Raw Atk power about 916 & the Dragon Attribute is 230 but the name is funny & how i pronounced it is: "Payell-Kaizeh".
Longswords:
Smolder Dragonsword: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, the best LS & can reach the body for mega hits.
Strategy:This are must-have because I tried & this will kill Gaoren in before 1 minute set off or before the time out. I suggest that bring Powercharms & Powertalons & bring Boomerang (being stupid). Slash Gaoren's bottom part till Gaoren flinches & when Gaoren stands up, attack Gaoren's Leg until it turns red but enough damage after the first one will turned deep red, making Gaoren a easy-to-trip Carapceon. once you attack Gaoren's bottom part with enough damage, he flinches & i won't move because doing this will damage you & push you to the front but at the front while Gaoren doesn't move, attack his head & move on to the back part but heal yourself. at Area 5, attack Gaoren's Bottom part till he stands up & try to Pincer slam II at the fort but don't worry if you attacking Gaoren's Leg. climb at the top part of the Fort & when Gaoren is walking backwards but launch the D-nator if he's almost close then attack Gaoren's head with 2 slashes then the not-brightly litted red portion on the Leg but enough hits will make Gaoren topple like a dead crab relaxing on the beach & POOF! you can do a Victory Jig.
[edit] Hammer/Hunting Horn
Recommeded Hammers/HH:
Hammers: Anvil Hammer: Perfect for beginers.
Onslaght Hammer: upgrade from Anvil hammer. required at HR4 and above. PERFECT! good weapon and can get you a kill easily.
Hunting Horn:
Gold Recorder: made by Gold Rathian; a Perfect way to kill a Giant Carapceon.
Strategy: For the hammer go to the front right leg and make it a light red by smashing it. after that hit the shell connector or where the legs are connected to the body untill he trips over. You will lose health but get up and roll bettween his legs into the connector area and triple-pound. reapeat this untill you get a kill or repel. As a HH master, prepared with some Music techs & everytime, leg Gaoren by side swing (rapid press /\ button) & if you Leg Gaoren enough, downsmash Gaoren's head but sheathe your Hunting Horn when Gaoren Attacks like Pincer Slam or Dancing because now, in front of Gaoren you need to dodge the attack & once Gaoren bashed into Zone five, Leg (means attack the Leg) Gaoren 2x & use the Farcaster because this time you gonna use the Ballista S at the essensial giant bowgun (ballista) when only Gaoren stands up okay!? also that after the Dragonator, prepare your Horn & started the Downsmash at the Tripped Gaoren or the Results is.. repel. If you can understand, THE END...

Lance: Thunderlance: the most poweful Lance & poweful enough to Kill Gaoren.
Sealed Dragonlance: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. same as the Thunderlance.
Teostra Roar: same as the Thunderlance.
Gunlance: Gun Chariot: The only Gunlance that is effective vs Giant Carapceons
Luna's Flare: This GL is powerful & why? because you need Luna's materials ok?
Strategy: once you watched the video of pantiece, wait for Gaoren to come in to zone two for a welcome-hi; do the attack called Guard Cancel (/\+O -> /\ -> /\ -> O) & backstep okay? while seem to be boring but run to the Back if Gaoren attacks; Gunlancers & Lancers always Guard cancel/Upstab since Gaoren is big; Lance & Gunlance with ESP can pierce the Shell & dont attack the Legs because is bad. Now, for the Area Five, Continue Upercutting/Upstabbing Gaoren till you need to go up the Fort & use Ballist Rounds when Gaoren Stands up & if the another Lancer/GLser have a Cannon S carrying with them, they must shoot then use Ballista Rounds. When Gaoren is using the Shell cannon, use the D-nator & risk yoor HP then heal up but if Gaoren didn't die, a few stabs & a Charge Shot deliberately kill him & if you can Understand this, THE END...
A better and easier to understand strategy: Shen Gaoren is a giant crab that does nothing but walk and occasionally launch a turd and slam his front claws down. Naturally his feet can step on you and they will; whether you're close to them or not. So instead of dealing with the stupid hit boxes on his legs you're just going to run up and under him and up-ward stab into his stomach and back-jump. Keep doing this as he walks and you'll knock him down quite a bit. When he falls over, he will do damage to you if you don't learn to block when he falls. At this point you have free hits on his face, and they're worth it for the pure satisfaction that you're stabbing the hell out of a giant crab's face.
He'll stand back up and you can start the whole process over again. Of course, when he reaches the bridge and stands all the way up you have a good thrity seconds to attack his legs if you feel comfortable getting close to the incredibly retarded hit boxes that are his feet. Then run up the little ramp, wait for him to poop and jump into his mouth, place the dragon bomb, get your carve, get thrown out and start all over again.
When he reaches the final area, shoot your ten ballistas (additional can be found next to cannon balls in camp) into his face and/or legs depending on what you've been working on. OPTIONAL: you can always bring in a cannon ball, but they're hard to aim just right. When he reaches the fortress wait for him to get really close and impale him with the dragonator. I've found no proof that the nator does more damage with his shell open, so I really don't care where I hit him as long as I hit him. Then I simply hop down and start destroying him again until he DIES.
I generally use the Dragonic Rim lance.
Optional throw-ins: You can set large barrel bomb + at the entrance of every map and use the shielded-stab to detonate them on his stomach. When he enters area 2 he'll poop at the entrance so wait until he's walking in face-first instead of Lao-first and line the bombs up with his stomach. This can be done a lot if you bring materials for combining. Bounce bombs will not reach his stomach when he's standing all the way up, but they're great for when he's walking and you want a little extra explosive damage on his stomach.
