In-Game Information[]

MH3-Jaggi Icon

Highly social, carnivorous bird wyverns found in large packs. Young Jaggi males hunt in groups, attacking much larger animals. Current research suggests they operate under orders from an alpha male. Aggressive but wary of fire.

Taxonomy[]

  • Order: Saurischia
  • Suborder: Bird Feet
  • Infraorder: Runner Wyvern
  • Superfamily: Dog Wyvern
  • Family: Jaggi

These small monsters are the juvenile forms of the Great Jaggi, are Bird Wyvern much like the Velociprey. The female Jaggi are called Jaggia.

Habitat Range[]

These small Bird Wyverns inhabit the Deserted Island and Sandy Plains of the New World. In the Old World, they're seen in the Misty PeaksAncestral SteppeSunken Hollow, Heaven's MountDunes, Jurassic Frontier and Everwood.

Ecological Niche[]

When alone, Jaggi will just feed on small fish and other small prey. In a pack, they will hunt down Aptonoth by using various hunting strategies. They will run around prey to confuse it and use their speed to their advantage. While surrounding the prey, they attack the prey from its blind spots, making the prey bleed. Jaggi, however, are prey to Tetsucabra, Rathalos, and Ludroth.

Biological Adaptations[]

The average size of a Jaggi is 365.0cm.Their spiked tails, claws, speed, agility, and teeth are its best weapons for killing prey. As stressed before, Jaggi are pack hunters, increasing the number of prey items they can bring down. When in small numbers, they most likely prefer to hunt small prey, but in packs they can prey on monsters larger than itself, such as Aptonoth and Rhenoplos. Jaggi and Jaggia have also been reported to eat crops, making them omnivores. Some Jaggi have been observed eating fish. A Jaggi's frills can be used for display.

Behavior[]

Despite being small, Jaggi are quite aggressive and will relentlessly attack threats, even when they're alone. However, they will usually back down when faced with a bigger and more dangerous threat, either leaving or waiting for the threat to leave. It is known that Jaggi are bold enough to attack large predatory monsters like some Flying Wyvern species. Each member in the Jaggi pack play some specific role in the pack. The role of the Jaggi is to patrol the distant outskirts of the territory and to hunt down prey for the rest of the pack while away from the main territory. Great Jaggi always eat first, Jaggia always eat second, and Jaggi always eat last.
