A small, red Carapaceon known as the Hermitaur, it is a younger version of the much larger Daimyo Hermitaur. They live mainly in jungles and deserts, usually near water. When they are left undisturbed, the Hermitaurs are most often seen picking through sand with their claws, presumably searching for food. The shell on their back was actually grown by the crab itself, only when they grow much larger, into a Daimyo Hermitaur, will they replace it with a Monoblos skull.

Once they spot a hunter, they will quickly charge and strike the player, causing only a minor amount of damage. After receiving several blows, they will fall to the ground, stunned. If they are attacked at this moment, they will die instantly, however, if they are allowed to recover, they will continue to attack as normal. Sometimes, a Hermitaur may wait beneath the ground for prey or a hunter to pass, jumping out of ground and striking them when they walk over. A Hermitaur that's burrowed underground can be spotted by the puffs of sand or dirt that it regularly spits out.

When carved, they will yield either a small Hermitaur shell, a sharp claw or Carapaceon brains. The latter is a valuable account item. On higher ranked missions, carving them can also result in a Hermitaur shell, among other, more valuable, items.

Hermitaurs are the tropical version of the Ceanataur.
