AttacksEdit

Forward Bite Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi bites at the hunter 1-2 times, taking a step forwards and swinging its body while it does so. The first bite can also be directly followed on by a Side Bite.

Rage Mode
None worth mentioning
Evasive Maneuver

Roll to the right side so you cannot be afflicted by Side Bite afterward, as Great Jaggi cannot change direction between the first and second bites. Can also be blocked, taking only a relatively small amount of stamina to do so. Attack from behind once the attack has been evaded successfully.

Tail Whip Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi steps towards the hunter, swinging its body so that it turns 180 degrees. This attack is always performed a second time, in which the Great Jaggi will step back to where it was originally.

Rage Mode
Much faster and repeats this attack 1 more time.
Evasive Maneuver

Rolling under the tail is probably the safest option, as, if timed correctly, it should pass over the hunter, causing no damage. Rolling away may also work, but as Great Jaggi jumps forwards when performing this attack, it may prove difficult. Rolling under the first tail swing and repositioning so that the follow-up attack will miss is a good option, as it allows the player to attack Great Jaggi while it is performing the second swipe. If using a blocking weapon, blocking the first hit and repositioning to the opposite side to the area of the follow-up tail swipe will also allow ample time to inflict damage.

Side Tackle Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi lines itself up so that its side is facing towards the hunter. It then jumps forwards, slamming the hunter with its side. This attack is relatively rare normally.

Rage Mode
Performed much more often, and can be used several times in a row.
Evasive Maneuver

As Great Jaggi positions itself, move towards the head. When it jumps, roll so that Great Jaggi's head passes over the hunter. Rolling towards the tail may also work, but is more difficult, as the tail has further reach than the head. Blocking is also an acceptable alternative, but causes significant knockback without Guard skills. If this attack is successfully avoided or blocked, the hunter should be in relatively close proximity to Great Jaggi, allowing a few moments to inflict some damage.

Back Jump Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi jumps backwards, to distance itself from the hunter, usually after performing an attack. This attack is not a threat by itself, but it is often followed up by another attack, such as a Side Tackle.

Rage Mode
None worth mentioning
Evasive Maneuver

As this attack does not inflict any damage, there is no evasive maneuver. However, it is wise to be prepared for any oncoming attacks that are likely to follow shortly.

Roar Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi tramples the ground twice, then roars at the hunter. Used when first encountering Great Jaggi, and whenever it goes into Rage mode. As with other Alpha Raptors, this roar does not require the use of Earplugs to negate. Not a threat by itself, but as Great Jaggi is likely in Rage mode after roaring, it is a valuable indicator for the hunter that they need to ajdust their attacking style accordingly.

Rage Mode
Used to enter Rage mode
Evasive Maneuver

As this attack cannot inflict damage, it is advised for the player to simply attack Great Jaggi while it is performing this attack. Be cautious though, as it will most likely be enraged after roaring, and may follow with another attack, such as a Side Tackle.

Side Bite Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi swings its body around and bites hunters standing behind it. This attack is almost always used when the hunter is standing behind Great Jaggi. This attack may also follow on from other attacks, such as the Forward Bite, which can catch inexperienced hunters off-guard.

Rage Mode
None worth mentioning
Evasive Maneuver

Roll in the opposite direction to the way the attack is coming from, and it should miss the hunter. This attack can also be blocked effectively, so is a suitable option for those using a weapon capable of blocking. If successfully evaded or blocked, it is possible to deal some damage to Great Jaggi while it is repositioning itself.

Howl Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

Great Jaggi raises its head and howls, calling in Jaggi and Jaggia to aid it in battle. This move is not a direct threat to the player, but the minions it summons may cause some difficulties. Often used when weak, and when in Rage.

Rage Mode
Used more frequently
Evasive Maneuver

Avoiding is not necessary, as this attack does not cause damage. It is a good idea to attack Great Jaggi during this time, as interrupting it stops the Jaggi or Jaggia from coming to its aid. Alternatively, this time can be used to sharpen, heal or set up a trap.
