The Gold Rathian are the strongest subspecies of the Rathian species and female counterpart of the Silver Rathalos. Golden Rathian has one of the most sought out parts of all monsters. Its body is covered in a hard golden shell, making it hard to attack without the weapon bouncing off it.

Gold Rathian are physically different from the other Rathian in that they have a shiny gold color to their scales and shells. They also take damage differently than the others. Instead of their weak spot being their head, their weak spot is their wings. The only exception to this is when using a Hammer or Hunting Horn, the impact damage is still more effective on the head. The Gold Rathian are weakest to thunder elemental weapons. Like the other Rathian, the Gold Rathian can poison you and damage you with fire. Another thing to be aware of is when you cut its tail off and it does the backflip, it can still poison you; however this attack also becomes easier to avoid as you can simply roll away from the Gold Rathian and it will most likely miss you.

  • A unique trait of Gold Rathian is that its head is weak to Impact (Hammer, Hunting horn), while its wings are very weak to slash (Greatsword, Longsword, etc). It is weakest to Thunder.

[edit] Unlocking it

  • In MHF2 she, along with Silver Rathalos, can only be unlocked by killing 100 Flying Wyverns (Bird Wyverns and Piscine do not count but the small and easily killed Remobras do), as well as 10 Rathalos and 10 Rathian. In MHFU however, as well as 100 Flying Wyverns, you must kill 15 Rathalos and 15 Rathian. The quests are also unlockable by getting to HR6 the gold Rathian and silver Rathalos are both required to be completed to reach HR7.

[edit] Changes in MHFU

  • Regular Earplugs do not work any more; in MHFU you need High Grade Earplug to block her scream, although you're left open for only a short period if you don't have High Grade Earplug unlike the roar of a Basarios or Diablos which leaves you open for a considerably longer amount of time.
