[edit] TeamHGG
TeamHGG are working on a patch as we speak, they also made a universal language patcher for the MHP2G patch. Their patch is pretty much all in english, just minor things are still in japanese, like descriptions for the new weapons, but they have the materials and all the important things in English and it is slowly updated to complete English. Their website can be found here: [1]

[edit] How to get Custom firmware, Rip ISOs and Patch MHP2ndG
[edit] FIRST STEP FOR SLIM/FAT USERS
First of all, you need to get the ISO of MHPG2. Its very easy to find a torrent of the ISO, but it would be nice for you to support the original and not support piracy. Here's a guide how to rip the ISO from your UMD disk: [7]
For your PSP to play ISO's you need Custom Firmware(CFW), if you don't know how to get CFW on your PSP its pretty simple all you'll need is a Pandora's battery, and a big enough memory card to fit MHP2G onto it. (I suggest 2gig or bigger). Here is a link to a very cheap working Pandora's Battery: [8] You can kill two birds with one stone if you get your battery and Memory card from here as a bundle [9] its cheap and it gets the job done, I know it works because this is what I used and its worked for me. (I've had to do it 4-5 times for my friends and its never failed.)
[edit] SECOND STEP FOR FAT PSP USERS
After you have your stuff you'll need to download [10] this will create a "magic" memory stick from your memory stick. After its downloaded open the file and click the file named "START.exe" follow the on screen instructions that appear and it will begin to install all the stuff you need to get your CFW and Making Your Magic Memory Stick. During the process with this program, you'll be given 5 options at some point, do the one that says "Universal unbricker/Downloads CFW" (#4). Then when that's done you'll have to go to the PSP and turn it off. This is were you put in the Pandora's Battery, now you'll have to do some simple steps with the psp. Follow this video it will take you through the Computer and PSP part: [11] Check your system settings when your done and go to system information, your system software should be something like "3.71 M33".
[edit] SECOND STEP FOR SLIM PSP USERS
After you have your stuff you'll need to download [12] this will create a "magic" memory stick from your memory stick. After its downloaded open the file and click the file named "Start" follow the on screen instructions that appear and it will begin to install all the stuff you need to get your CFW. Follow this video, it will take you through the Computer and PSP part: DO NOT DO THE PSP PART. FOLLOW UNTIL IT ENDS THE COMPUTER PART [13]. For the PSP part of the installing use this guide video instead: [14]. Check your system settings when your done and go to system information, your system software should be something like "3.71 M33"
Sometimes on slims the white text will not appear, if this happens and you just get a blank screen. Look to the left and see if the orange light is flashing/Glowing, if this is the case then just leave your PSP alone UNTIL the light stops flashing, when that's done shut down the PSP and replace the Pandora's Battery with the normal battery and reboot your PSP your Firmware should now be something like "3.71 M33"
[edit] FINAL STEP FOR SLIM/FAT USERS
Now hopefully everything ran smoothly for you, next you have to go to your memory card and format it again. Go into USB mode, there should be a folder called ISO, put the MHP2G ISO into the new folder called "ISO" Let that load, now get out of USB mode and go the Game menu on your screen, then go down to "Memory Stick" NOT SAVE DATA UTILITY. You should see MHP2G in the Memory stick. Now, if that all went down right go back to USB mode. Go to [15] and download the patcher and the latest english file. Put "Papimeru" (the patcher) into the GAME folder in your PSP, then put the english file in the "Papimeru" Folder it should say "English.LGG already exist overwrite?" Click yes. After all that's done get out of USB mode again and go to the "memory stick" Folder in GAME, you should see papimeru, run papimeru and patch the game its very simple and quick. Now go to GAME in the memory card folder start up MHP2G and you should be playing it!!
NOTES:
- Make sure you have a UMD in your PSP when you try and start MHP2ndG, unless you have activated the "No UMD Sony np9660 Mode" (Found in the XMB menu when you push select or in the recovery mode of your custom firmware).
I really hope this works for you, I've spent a lot of time on this guide.
Remember if you have trouble after you have tried it, leave a note on my talk page.
[edit] Media Install
MHP2G introduced the new feature media install to increase loading speed. But, this cannot be turned on when your playing on a ISO, because media install puts some things onto the Memory card and reads it later for faster loading, but because this is an ISO you don't need it on (Even if you try to turn it on you can't). This is because the whole game is on the memory card, because of this most loading times are now 1-3 seconds, a vast improvement.
[edit] Parts that still need translation
This is the list of some of the things not yet translated:
- Some of the Village People's dialogue
- Fighter cat's dialogue
- Info Book (Almost Finished)
- The 3rd Page of the new quest details when your choosing the mission
- All Quest info of old/new quests during the missions and reward screens
- All Quest info of old/new quests when taking a mission from the guide hall quest board (Not when your picking a mission from the girls)
[edit] FAQ
1. Does the patch really work?
Yes, yes it does why else would I make this page? Just to mess with you? Also a lot of the screenshots you see were taken on my PSP running the patch.
2. Are you using the patch?
Yes I'm using the patch right now, a lot of the screenshots you see were taken on my PSP running the patch.
3. Did you do this?
Yes, I have gone through this process 5 or 6 times for my friends and its never failed on me. This guide was all written from my experience after researching and finding out what to do.

No, you can't. And even if you do the program you download and Pandora's Battery is also for unbricking PSPs
5. Can I transfer my MHF2 Data over to MHP2ndG?
Yes you can, but you have to convert your data to "Monster Hunter Portable 2nd" the Japanese version. You have to download a program to do this, or many people on forums are offering to do it for you. I didn't want to go through this so I started fresh, so I can't really help you on this subject. Remember Google is your friend.
6. My Button input is strange, why is this?
This is a Japanese game so Select is
and Cancel is

8. How do I get my fighter cat to come with me on missions?
Go to the Fighter Board and Go to "Fighter Status" select the cat you want and a red pawprint will appear on the page. For more info on your fighter cat go here: Felyne Fighters Guide (MHP2G)
9. Can I get the downloadable quests?
Yes, the only thing is the download page is not translated and never will be because it is not part of the game. You can use this as a guide to help you out a bit.
