OK basically in addition to the element added to each non elemental weapon you unlock the next step (new moves to each weapon). There will be a bar across the screen aside from the (longsword/switch axe) when filled your character will be covered in an aura to you have entered awaken + 2. In addition you will also have a slight attack increase and slightly larger element increase to non-element weapons(small element boost to weapons already with element)

Greatsword: Each off the greatswords attacks can charge even the sideslap for extra KO damage.

Longsword: Your spirit technique will have extra spirit hits and the fade slash can go in all directions like a dash hit.

Sword n shield: Sword and shield can do their own special demon combo thing and the shield could have increased KO damge and have it's own combo.

Downsides: Is affected by focus can stay in that mode longer or run out faster. Can be hard to fill when fighting a fast opponent. May take some practice to find all special moves for each weapon.

And if you do make this a skill do it for everybody and not just frontier.
