Hunter Festival (Japanese: 狩人祭, Romaji: Kariudo-matsuri) is one of the 4 weekly events exclusive to Monster Hunter Frontier. It was introduced in the update of Monster Hunter Frontier 2.5 on April 14th, 2008. To date, there have been more than 90 Hunter Festivals in total.
Description
The Hunter Festival is one of the four weekly rotating events in Monster Hunter Frontier. The other three events are Sky Corridor, Extreme Conquest War and Parone. Unlike the other events, the Hunter Festival consists of 3 phases, each of them having a time span of 1 week.
The first phase is the sign-up week. This is when Guild Leaders can sign-up their Guilds to participate in the Hunter Festival. Upon doing so, the Guild will be randomly assigned to one of the 2 team colors that will compete with each other. There's a blue team and a red team.
The second phase is the hunting week. During this week players can collect points by slaying or capturing monsters, as well as delivering certain carry-items (wyvern eggs, herbivore eggs, soothstone ore, powderstone, etc) and donate these to the Hunter Festival.
The third and final phase is the reward week. This is when the point total of all Guild donations from both sides have been calculated and compared to one another. The side with the highest amount of points will be declared the winner and gain access to the highly sought-after Winner Quests.
How it works
The 2 teams
During the first week of the Hunter Festival, Guild Leaders can sign-up their Guild to participate in the Hunter Festival. After doing so, the Guild will be randomly assigned to one of the 2 team colors that will be competing against each other. There is a blue team and a red team.
After a Guild has been signed up, a message will appear for the Guild Leader saying which team color they have been assigned to. Consequently, the color of their team will show up as a symbol next to the name of all the guild members for the entirety of the Hunter Festival. This symbol is either a blue flame icon or a red flame icon .
The goal is to collect Soul Points (Jikkon) and donate it to the Guild. This applies to all guilds of both sides and the side that has the highest amount of points by the end of the 2nd week will be declared the winner and gain access to Winner Quests.
Soul Points (Jikkon)
Soul Points (Japanese: 入魂, Romaji: Jikkon) are the special points that can be collected during the 2nd week of the Hunter Festival, the hunting week. These points can be gathered in the following ways:
- Slaying or capturing big monsters.
- Delivering carry-items (wyvern eggs and anything of the sort).
- Sending out a Partnya (felyne companion) to collect souls through My Support.
While the first 2 methods involve clearing quests, the 3rd can only be done while outside of a quest. It is also possible to obtain large amount of points by competing in the Guild Time Attack Tournaments that are held during the hunting week. Higher placings award more points.
There is also a cap to how many soul points or jikkon can be kept at a time before having to donate them. This cap was originally 99 points but was raised twice during the Monster Hunter Frontier G updates. The first time it was raised to 200 points, the second time to 500.
Lastly, there are fixed Personal Bonus Multipliers that will apply to players who have donated a certain amount of soul points:
Soul Points (入魂) | 5000+ | 2000~4999 | 1000~1999 | 100~999 | 0~99 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bonus Multiplier | x3 | x2 | x1.5 | x1 | x0.5 |
These numbers will apply in the Reward Point Calculation during the final week of the Hunter Festival.
Reward Points & Calculations
In the third and final week of the Hunter Festival, also known as the reward week, the combined total of Soul Points donated by both teams will have been calculated and compared, resulting in 1 team being declared as the winner. All participants who have donated will be able to claim rewards based on the amount of Soul Points they have turned in individually and as a Guild.
The rewards consist of Festival Points and a couple of related items needed to craft festival equipment and initiate Winner Quests. The amount of Festival Points that are rewarded to each player individually is done according to the following formula:
- (Guild's Total Points / # of donating participants) * Personal Bonus Multiplier * Festival Multiplier * Winning / Losing Multiplier.
A few examples of this calculation can be found in the tables below (winner/loser multiplier is excluded):
Guild Total Points | # of Participants | Personal Bonus | Festival Multiplier | Reward P |
---|---|---|---|---|
100.000 | 10 | x3 | x1 | 30000 |
100.000 | 11 | x3 | x1 | 27272 |
100.000 | 12 | x3 | x1 | 25000 |
100.000 | 15 | x3 | x1 | 20000 |
100.000 | 20 | x3 | x1 | 15000 |
The next table shows a simulation of the effects under the same circumstances with a higher Festival Multiplier:
Guild Total Points | # of Participants | Personal Bonus | Festival Multiplier | Reward P |
---|---|---|---|---|
100.000 | 10 | x3 | x3 | 90000 |
100.000 | 11 | x3 | x3 | 81818 |
100.000 | 12 | x3 | x3 | 75000 |
100.000 | 15 | x3 | x3 | 60000 |
100.000 | 20 | x3 | x3 | 45000 |
The 3rd and final table below shows how drastically point loss can apply in a more extreme situation:
Guild Total Points | # of Participants | Personal Bonus | Festival Multiplier | Reward P |
---|---|---|---|---|
33.335 | 5 | x3 | x5 | 100005 |
33.335 | 6 | x3 | x5 | 83338 |
33.335 | 7 | x3 | x5 | 71432 |
33.335 | 10 | x3 | x5 | 50002 |
33.335 | 15 | x3 | x5 | 33335 |
Because of this formula, players will not receive festival points proportionally to their share in the Guild Total Donation Pool. In other words, when a Guild has collected 100000 Soul Points, a player who has donated 20000 will not receive more festival points than one who has only donated 5000 because they both receive the same personal bonus multiplier.
This could be seen as unfair from both the perspective of a player who has donated a lot of points, as well as from one who has not. Ultimately, points are distributed equally among those who have participated (donated points) in the Hunter Festival.
There is also a cap to how many Festival Points a player can have at a time. Players can have a maximum amount of 100000 Festival Points before capping out. Festival Points are carried over from one Hunter Festival to another, so there is no immediate need to spend them as soon as possible.
However, this does mean that when the next Hunter Festival has ended, players should spend the points from the previous festival before claiming them again. Claiming Festival Points can only be done once. Doing so while already capped will result in the newly claimed points going to waste. As such, it is well-advised to spend points every now and then.
Benefits
There are several benefits to actively participating in Hunter Festivals:
- Donating Soul Points in sufficient amounts allows players to claim special items such as Transcend upgrade materials, Extreme Conquest War Recommendation Proofs and 祭典の叙情詩 to craft the Ninfa (ニンファ) Armor and related weapons (G-Rank only).
- Obtaining Festival Points to spend in the Festival Shop and being able to buy extremely rare items in bulk such as the majority of the Hardcore and G Hardcore Carves.
- Obtaining items and materials that are required to craft Festival Equipment.
- Obtaining the items necessary to initiate Winner Quests and gain access to exclusive G-Rank Festival Equipment and decorations.
The 3 weeks
Sign-up Week
Guild Leaders and Co-leaders can sign-up their Guild to participate in the Hunter Festival by talking to the Wyvernian Lady located on the right of the entrance to the Blacksmith. A Guild must be at least Level 1 to be eligible for participation.
After a Guild has been signed up all of its members will receive a blue flame or red flame icon next to their name depending on the team color they have been assigned to. Guilds that are part of an alliance will all be assigned to the same team color as the one that was first to sign-up for the Hunter Festival.
Once a Guild has been signed up there is not much else left to do but to wait for the Hunting Week to commence.
On that note, it is possible for all players to check the schedule and benefits, multipliers and rewarded items that will apply to the upcoming or ongoing Hunter Festival. This can be done at any moment inbetween the start and end of a Hunter Festival.
Lastly, all players can also check out the Soul Point List to see which monsters can be hunted or specifically have to be either slain or captured and how many points they will yield. The carry-items, required amount and their payoff can be found at the end of the list.
Whether a monster can be hunted or has to be either slain or captured is listed in the 2nd row of the Soul Point List. The same also applies to the carry-items that to be delivered. The kanjis, romaji and translation of each of these 4 conditions can be found in the table below:
Japanese | Romaji | English |
---|---|---|
狩猟 | Shuryou | Hunt |
討伐 | Toubatsu | Slay |
捕獲 | Hokaku | Capture |
納品 | Nouhin | Deliver |
Hunting Week
All Guilds and their members who are participating in the Hunter Festival can now collect and donate Soul Points by hunting monsters and delivering carry-items. Soul Points can be donated by talking to the same Wyverian Lady who also allows players to access the Soul Point List and Hunter Festival schedule.
Players are now also able to check the current status of the total donation pool from both teams as a whole, their own guild and themselves individually. This balance is updated at regular intervals for both teams and the guild as whole. Donations by players individually are updated in realtime.
Soul Points are distributed at the end of a quest when Hunter Rank Points and Zenni are also handed out. It has its own screen in which the acquired points, point total from clearing the quest and the amount of points currently in possession are also shown. Players can hold a maximum of 500 Soul Points at a time.
Other than by hunting monsters and delivering carry-items, it is also possible to collect Soul Points by dispatching a Partnya (パートニャー) to gather them. A Patnya can be sent out once a day at the expense of an item. The selected item decides how many Soul Points the Partnya will gather and can be picked up at 12:00pm (Japan Standard Time) the day after.
Donating Soul Points will also unlock rewards that can be claimed either by all members of a Guild or just those who are donating. On that note, there are 2 types of rewards. The first type is based off how many Soul Points a Guild has donated as a whole and can be claimed by all members regardless of their participation. The second type is based off a player's individual Soul Point donations and can only be claimed by that player personally.
An example of a personal donation reward is the Purple Hunter Pass (ハンターパス・紫) which is required to access the "Slay 2 Mosswine" Daily Quest. This reward can be claimed after donating 1 Soul Point and the player will receive 7 Purple Hunter Passes to use on a Hunter Festival during the Hunting Week.
This Daily Quest yields 200 Soul Points for clearing it and is treated as a Secret Quest. As such, the bonus effect for Hunter Festival that can be activated during the Sky Corridor Event also applies to this quest. The effect of this bonus is an additional +10 Soul Points on every Secret Quest cleared.
Secret Quests (Japanese: シクレ, Romaji: Shikure), commonly referred to as Secrets or Shikures, are timed quests that reward bonus Soul Points at certain time-frames. Secret Quests are predetermined at the start of a Hunter Festival and will randomly cycle throughout the Hunting Week. Each Hunter Festival has a total of 9 unique Secret Quests.
Secret Quests are, as the name implies, a secret and therefore it is up to the players to discover them. The only exception applies when there is a Joint Festival going on, in which there is no winner or loser. In that case, Capcom will publish the list of Secret Quests on their website for Monster Hunter Frontier.
The benefits of Secret Quests are only available to players who are on the losing team when one of these quests is active. As such, when the Red Team is losing and there is a Secret Quest going on, only the players who are on the Red Team will receive a point bonus for clearing the quest. Players who are on the Blue Team can also join this quest but will not receive a bonus.
However, this does not apply when the Secret Quest takes place during the weekend or when there's a Joint Festival going on. In these cases, both teams can benefit from the Secret Quest.
Reward Week
All point donations from both teams across all 3 servers have been calculated and compared, resulting in 1 team being declared as the winner of the Hunter Festival. With each server being treated individually there can be different winners. However, the combined total of Soul Points donated by all 3 servers are counted as one to measure which bonus events will be active for the weeks to come.
Players who have actively participated in the Hunter Festival, meaning that they have donated Soul Points, are now able to claim their well-deserved rewards for the effort they have put in individually and as a Guild. Like the other Hunter Festival Management options, this can also be done by talking to the Wyvernian Lady and selecting the options as shown in the picture above.
The rewards can be claimed at any moment during the Reward Week. However, this can only be done once so it is important for players who still have a lot of Festival Points to spend them before claiming more. By selecting the 2nd option in the menu, as shown in the top-right corner of the picture above, players can access the Festival Shop.
The Festival Shop offers a large variety of items in several categories. This includes food ingredients, collectibles from the field (gathering), common and rare monster materials, decoration jewels and even Hardcore and G Hardcore Carves.
For the losing team there is not much else to do during the Reward Week than claiming rewards and spending Festival Points. The winner's team, on the other hand hand, can freely access the Winner Quests throughout the entire week.
Winner Quests (Japanese: 勝ち組クエスト, Romaji: Kachigumi Kuesuto) are special quests that can only be accessed by the team that has won the Hunter Festival. Some of these quests reward items that are necessary to craft certain Festival Equipment. This can be done at the expense of 2 items that are part of the default Hunter Festival rewards for all participants:
Japanese | Romaji | English | Purpose |
---|---|---|---|
祭典の証 | Saiten no Shou | Festival Proof | Allows players to initiate Winner Quests. |
祭典の熱気 | Saiten no Nekki | Festival Enthusiasm | Allows players to initiate G-Rank Winner Quests. |
Lastly, players on the winner's team can also access Winner Quests even if they did not donate any Soul Points. On that note, since there is no winner or loser during Joint Festivals, neither team will gain access to Winner Quests.
