Monster Hunter Wiki

Elements (属性 or Attributes) are the secondary damage done by a Weapon's or a Monster's attack. Like raw damage, it is done directly. How much the Element effects a Monster or a Hunter is dependent on the monster's weaknesses, resistances, or the Hunter's equipped Armor Pieces or Armor Sets. Specific parts in a Monster's body may have differing Elemental Weaknesses and Resistances.

The original Elements in the game are Fire, Water, Thunder and Dragon. The Ice Element was introduced during the Second Generation, Elements combined with Ailments were introduced during Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and combined Elements were introduced during Monster Hunter Frontier G.

Beginning at the Third Generation, a Monster's Elemental attacks may inflict status conditions known as Blights. Each Elemental Blight may inflict different conditions that and can be removed or prevented through actions or the use of Recovery Items. These Blights may increase on its severity depending on the Hunter's Element Resistance Skills on their Armor Set, or if the Hunter has been hit multiple times with the Elemental Attack.

List of Known Elements

Below are a list of known Elements in the game. Specific Articles are made for further details.

Main Elements

These are the original Elements present in the Main and Frontier Series of Monster Hunter games.

Fire / 火

Main Article: Fire Element

Description Images

Fire (Japanese) is a common element found in nature. Many species of wyverns are imbued with it. Using Flame Sacs or other flammable materials, hunters can forge weapons with fire element, as well as armor. In Monster Hunter 3, being hit by a fire attributed attack (like an Alatreon's fire blast, or an Agnaktor's fire beam) inflicts a secondary effect called Fireblight, which slowly lowers the red part of the health bar before reducing the green section of health. This can be removed by rolling three times, or just once into water.

Dragon (Japanese) is special element in the sense that it can be devastating only to monsters that are dragons or have dragon lineage. As with other elements, the damage dealt varies with each monster. In Monster Hunter 3, Dragon attacks dealt by some monsters now have the ability to inflict Dragonblight, lowers Affinity by -50% for an amount of time. In MH3U, instead of lowering Affinity, Dragonblight will drastically reduce a weapon's elemental attribute. It will also lower special ratings such as poison, paralysis and slime.
