Commander in the Flames

From Monster Hunter Wiki

I would suggest a Thunder bow or a fast Thunder weapon. If not, then the Dragon Katana will do, but be sure to run when he follows you and don't dive, it will slow you down and let him catch up to you to cream you during his next attack or two. When he gets mad, use a trap and wail on him. I know it sounds stupid but if u want to live a bit longer then that's how u do it.

[edit] Alternative Strategy

Ok now for those of you who think the guide above is a bit short and shallow (sorry no offense there) here is one with a little more detail:

This level 4 quest requires you to hunt down a Shogun Ceantaur. When you do this quest the first time he will always be in area 3. When fighting him you should use a fast weapon, as above stated; a bow is a good choice against him, but SnS or LS works good to. I recommend either Sonic Bow I (it is possible to get II at that time though, which will accelerate the process), Eager Cleaver (It is possible to get Devil Slicer at that time, but it should be easy enough with the Eager Cleaver) and also Thunderbane, it is not really the best weapon, but it is enough to kill him with it(I've even killed him with Frost Edge before so...)

Now, when you go to attack him with a melee weapon, go for the legs, with LS you should get 2-3 hits in, with SnS 4-5, then roll out of the way, keep on repeating until he trips or flinches, now you can go for the face (for LS users: now is a good time to get a Spirit combo in!), but I prefer to keep on going for the legs so he will trip or flinch again faster.

Now with a bow you'll mostly want to hit him in the face, charge and run around until its up to at least level 2 and then shoot him in the face, keep on doing it that way, but don't go to far away, he runs faster than you do with your weapon drawn.

So, that way you should be able to keep on going without getting hit at all, but unfortunately, our blue friend will eventually go into rage mode... so, his claws will get twice as big, he'll be almost 2x as fast, so now he's a lot harder to avoid... now with melee; you'll only want to hit him once or twice and then roll away, now don't go for his face at all. You're bound to get hit, and in rage mode he actually does quite a lot of damage, and gunners especially need to watch out now, most attacks are a 2-hit-kill.

Latest now you should paintball him as he is very likely to switch areas soon. If he goes in one with the little explosive rocks, just run around and let them do the work for you, there is a good chance that one of his claws will break, now if it does, he'll constantly be in rage mode, but he'll be easier to avoid and his broken claw will do a little less damage.

Now just keep on repeating the strategy from above, and he'll eventually die. You can use bombs and traps to accelerate the process, but I think that this is basically unnecessary, even for beginners. The elder quests are basically just for training, now is a good time to learn how to fight monsters like that, so take a little challenge (by the way that's what this game is about; challenging you!) and don't bring any traps, or some less health supplies than usual, so you HAVE to avoid getting hit, which will make you an awesome dodger which will help you later on against stronger monster like Elder Dragons or G-Ranks...! And it's also a lot more fun that way!!!

So that's basically it, and as always: Don't rush in head first!!! NEVER!!!
