Cephadrome are sand swimming creatures of the desert. They have younger minions named Cephalos. Cephadrome have brownish-green skin and yellow eyes. They have a flat, diamond-shaped head, fins, and a tail that help propel themselves through the sand. Cephadrome have only been found in deserts.
The most sensitive parts of their bodies are their stomach and dorsal fin, which can be broken for reward Items. They are most damaged by thunder elemented weapons. Their caution in fighting causes them to run away frequently by diving into the sand. They use hipchecks, tail swipes, and shoot sand streams to damage its hunters. Like all other piscines, they have a back fin that can be broken. When weak, the back fin flattens down.
[edit] Take-Down Strategy
Sonic Bombs are your best bet for blasting this monster out of the sand, but if you deal enough damage on its exposed fin while its swimming you will get a similar result. Watch out when you can see its fin speeding right at you, because that means it is about to jump out and paralyze you. When you do get it out of the sand, don't stand in front of it or you'll get hit by a stream of sand or it will leap at you in a weird "swimming" movement. A smart strategy it so stay under its legs and hack away at it, as only its hipcheck will hurt you there. Just like the plesioth, he does his hipcheck only with his right hip so staying left of him can keep you safe from it. Constant assault is recommended to stop it from jumping back into the sand. Avoid its tail whip, or else it will send you flying and give it the opportunity to jump in again.
In Higher Rank Quests the Cephadrome will drop the rare Coral Cephalos Fin, but only by capturing it or breaking its back fin, which can be used to produce the powerful High Sandman Spike.
