Basarios: Unseen Peril

From Monster Hunter Wiki

Recommended Weapons: Daimyo Warbows

[edit] Alternate Strategy

OK. Again i find the above stategy abit... ahh, shallow, so here is a more detailed one:

Now, this quest requires you to hunt a Basarios. For the first time ever i do not reccomend usting a LS, due to it's long range most of your attacks will bounce of its armoured back. Basarios is very slow, which makes it the perfect monster to bow-hunt. As stated above the Daymio Bows will do the job quikly. of all melee wepons SnS and DS work best, but as it'll probably be difficult to get a nice DS at that time just stick to SnS. I used Frost Edge, works perfectly fine except that you will have to sharpen alot, but since he's sooo slow it won't be a problem

First, run straight to area 7 Basarios will be there but, he looks like a rock with half his body underground...run straight up to him then, throw a paintball or rock at him so you dont get hit when he jumps out, its best to paintball him right away as he is as i said a pain in the ass to find. Now with SnS just go underneath him and attack his chest, it's his weakspot and it will also break, and when it does you'll deal evne more damage. Now, he will only be able to hit you with his gas or hipcheck attacks. Both are annoying and painful, but he gives you enough time to roll out of the way. Just keep on attacking his chest.

  • also when he moves into area 4 i reccomend that after you hit him with either a stone or paintball, simply hide behind a rock pillar. he will charge at you but charge into the rock pillar which explodes on impact. repeat for all rock pillars in the area and it will make him much easier to kill

With a bow its basically the same, attack the chest, you should be able to hit him after every attack, just don't get too far away, his charge is slow but accurate...

Now if he gets in rage mode; it doesnt really matter... his attacks will get stronger, but he'll still be S L O W. So no strategy change here just keep going as stated above.

Now once his chest breaks, there is his weakspot, he's probably pretty close to death now and will flinch alot, you can go offensive if you want, but do this at your own risk.

So, it wont be long until he dies now, so thats it for Basarios. This fight should be alot of fun and a good training for Gravios. Remember though, even with monsters this slow... Dont rush in head first!!!

Ok, first things first, I tried the bow strategy that is mentioned above, but I lacked the bow-related skills (aiming, timing, etc) to bring this beast down, so I thought to myself, "what if I were to use a weapon that combines shooting and meleeing?" So I used a Gunlance, and I will tell all of you who aren't too good with bows either how I did it.

The Gunlance I used was the Special Ops Gunlance which is very easy to get (Iron Gunlance ---> Iron Gunlance+ ---> Steel Gunlance ---> Special Ops Gunlance) Any other stuff you might want to bring along: Demondrug, Armorskin, Cool Drinks, Mega Potion, Small Barrelbombs, Large Barrelbombs, Paintballs. The strategy for defeating Basarios is very simple and easy: use his slow charge attack against him. When you go out to area 7 kill the Aptceros first, they might become troublesome when you are fighting the Basarios. When you completed this, it is time to wake up the Big Boy. To steer clear of its "jump out of the ground" - technique, just use a Paintball (Double advantage: if he flees, you can track him) Now, when he does his charge attack, just walk away from it, to its left, or your right (Normally it's that slow that you have enough time to get away). When at a rather safe distance of its running attack (but still in shelling distance) turn towards it and shoot at the moment it passes you. Keep on doing this until he flees the scene.

If he goes to area 6 ---> Just kill off all of the Ioprey without waking it up, then just throw another Paintball at it to wake it up and repeat the side-chelling when he runs by.

If he goes to area 4 ---> Kill off all of the Ioprey without waking it up, place Large Barrelbombs in front of the exploding stones, wake it up with a Paintball, and let it charge into the stones. With the LBarrelbombs there, it'll do a hell of a lot of damage.

When he goes to area 2 ---> Kill the annoying Bullfango, wake it up and let it charge into the stones and (if you have done enough damage) it'll go down like a large piece of boulder that you blow up with a lot of dynamite!

Et Voila, mes ami's: One dead walking mountain, there for your carving pleasure!
