In-Game description

MH3-Altaroth Icon
Insects that widely inhabit many areas. Noted for absorbing fruit, mushrooms and honey, then carrying them back to their nest. Materials can thus be collected from their swollen abdomens, whose color is related to what is being carried.

  • Order: Insect Shell
  • Suborder: Spine Insect
  • Family: Altaroth
  • Species: Altaroth

Altaroth are a species of Neopteron common to the New World. Their closest relative is the Hornetaur.

Habitat Range

Altaroth have been seen in a variety of environments. They've been spotted in the Jurassic Frontier, Deserted Island, Sandy Plains, Flooded Forest, Volcano, Misty Peaks, Primal Forest, Frozen Seaway, Volcanic Hollow, and Heaven's Mount.

Ecological Niche

Altaroth are at the bottom of the food chain. They feed on mushrooms, honey, nuts, and fruit. They are the primary food for the Barroth, Volvidon, Kecha Wacha, and Ash Kecha Wacha.

Biological Adaptions

Altaroth feed on plants, mushrooms, and nuts. To help them feed, special enzymes are used to eat these foods. The foods are changed before their held in their abdomen and brought back to the Altaroth colony. Their abdomen produces formic acid, similar to ants, for protection. Compared to other Neopteron, Altaroth are quite fragile in nature.

Altaroth are quite peaceful until provoked. If attacked, Altaroth will send in their soldiers to fight and protect the colony. Atlaroth live inside huge nests filled with a giant colony.
